M6 and iTunes ID3 Tag don't go together?!

Hi everyone!

This is my first post here. I just came back from China where I got myself the M6 SL 8GB. Now I just connected it to my Mac and copied the albums from iTunes over to the player. The strange thing: From 5 albums there are just two which the M6 can display correctly according to their ID3 tag. The others show up as unknown artist and unknow album.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is iTunes screwing up the standard ID3 tags or something? If yes: Is there an easy way to fix it?

My iTunes is at 7.5 (19)
My OSX is at 10.5.1
My Meizu M6 SL is at 2.004.4

Thanks for your help and tips!

Okay, I saw that there's a post over at the French forum concerning problems with iTunes and ID3 tag versions. They suggest to go back to ID3v1.1 for all albums which doesn't support CD covers for my database in iTunes and also no Chinese characters. So I checked the 2 working albums for their version of ID3 and both are 2.3! So all the non working ones seem to be 2.2.

I just converted one to 2.3 but it still isn't recognized - garsh...

retag your files using foobar. it worked for me. a podcast i downloaded was encoded with itunes and showed up as Unknown Artist with an Unknown Album. I loaded it into foobar and chosed the retag option in the context menus and it worked.

From my testing, the problem seems to be created when a file has only an id3v2 or id3v1 tag, but not both. The easiest solution is to get a free copy of mp3tag, then open all of the offending files. Click OK, and it will automatically sync the existing tags to both versions, and the player will recognize the track info immediately.

I am not all that big on the album art (I only have one album it shows up on, and the little square wasn't big enough to get excited about. I also have noticed id3 v2.2 not working. I just use mp3tag on all music files after download.

Thanks so much for all the replies. fastpakr was exactly right! It seems to be an issue which is connected to files not having an ID3v1 info present. This info can be left empty but it has to be applied to each file. I'll post an app to fix this for Mac OS X in my signature!

The software I used is "ID3 Editor 1.9.7" which can be downloaded for free here. It integrates very well in iTunes (tested with v7.5) and creates miniPlayer valid files with 2 clicks [1.) ID3v1 2.) Update - it's as easy as that! ]!

Although I mainly offer support for Mac please take a look at fastpakr's post to this problem. I can't tell you if the described way works though:

Don't mean to complain.

The explanation given for mp3tag is vague. "Click ok."

Maybe in other versions it is that simple, but v2.4 doesn't seam to have an "OK" button. I'm currently trying my idea of what was meant by this by simply clicking save tags but if anyone could get a bit more descriptive that would much appreciated.
