My black Meizu M6 (8gb) is about 2.5 weeks old now and the battery only appears to last around 8 hours with each charge. I currently use the 2.003.2 firmware –isn’t this supposed to give me ~36 hours of use, or more realistically, around 20 hours? Can someone please help me out?

1. I mainly use my Meizu to listen to music, though I also look at photos and voice record once a week for a few minutes.

2. My music files are .WVA at a bit rate of 160.

3. I keep the backlight on at zero (0) for both music and photos and only rarely turn it up if I’m in direct sunlight (for a few minutes).

4. I always turn off the screen after making any adjustment.

5. I have limited the volume to 20 and only turn it up that high when I’m outside (usually about 5-12).

6. I have turned the bass boost down to 4 from the factory setting of 8 due to my already bass-heavy earphones (Sony MDR-X51LP).

7. As for Equalizer, it is on Rock.

8. I do not watch videos.

9. I almost never listen to the radio, and if I do, it’s for less than five minutes.

My 8 hour figure is based off using the Sleep Timer at 30 mins. and 1 hour intervals and then estimating the remaining time. Right now, I’m at about 6 hours of usage and the battery monitor just reached it’s last section, and from previous experience, that means I have about 2 to 2.5 hours left.

Please provide your input!

EDIT: I am using the 2.003.2 firmware, the previous entry was a typo.

First of all : the battery indicator is by no means a reliable measurement of remaining power. You should really write your times down and add them up for the final result.
Furthermore, I have no idea how much cpu power is needed for wma decoding. I'd advice to use mp3 at any bitrate.

Are WMA files really the culprit? I'm going to convert to mp3 and find out.

Thanks for the opinions, guys. Any one else care to contribute?

i am always near a computer most of the time and dont listen to my meizu for that long period of time in one swoop, so it doesnt affect me much.

I use custom EQ with my mp3's at volume 5, which really works great for me. the longest i have listened was 3 and half hours, which only took less than a quarter of my meizu's battery meter.

Its a very good post though coz its interesting if it maybe possible that it could depend on the music formats. Ive heard that WMA actually sounds great in comparison with bitrates to mp3, for example, 64bitrate WMA is sames as 128bitrate MP3. Then again most people dont use WMA - would be interesting why where as MP3 is pretty much universally common format.

Of course there are the new flac and ogg vorbis formats that you may wish to look at too. Both of which meizu supports playback.
