Meizu delay tactics
One thing that has bugged me recently about what JW was saying in relation to the release is that he can't release it, even in China, until they get the mobile license.
Now this has recently seemed a little daft to me. Firstly, in China, every company and their mother release shitty phones and have never had problems getting a license. Also if you were developing and planning to release a phone, would you not have looked into and planned to apply and get said license long before you were finished developing and ready to release???
I think this was yet again, another delay tactic which just edged past my radar.
What do you guys think?

Meizu is a large company in China. You think they can get away without a license?

You think they'd have left it until the last minute to get the license?

I have no idea when they applied for it. But they need a license.

I'm not saying they don't need a license. If you re-read my original post you will see I never said that. I am referring to how they are getting/applying it and how it seems like another stalling/delay tactic in that any right minded company would have had it over and done with before their product was even near completion.

Yea...Doesn't seem like it should be something which takes a long time or is hard to get. Especially when you think about all the cheap dodgy phones which end up for sale.

I know it's a bit offtopic, but they just announced the second online list of the M8 testers (40 users), and I think they will announce the other 40 users 1st October (=100 users + 400 to come in October-November).
JW's post
test topic
Also, one of our member, davilido is on the list

i'm pleasantly surprised to hear that one of our own members is going to be in the beta test, can you ask him if he will make a video and put it on youtube, i am getting really excited about seeing the playback of some 700mb divx videos, and knowing how long the battery works when playing them...
i think some of the smaller chinese companys might not bother to get a license, since the government there does not seem to do much against them, but a company like meizu will sell a LOT more devices, so they need the license, and perhaps they did not request the license before they were sure the device in beta tests was sufficiently working to be sold...
since these licenses are not cheap, perhaps they waited becouse they do not want to have to pay for a license during 6 months while they are not selling them yet...

I'm not sure they are allowed to post any information related to the tests... So we have to wait JW to show us more.

That's a good question...
I think the first batch already got it and tested it, but I don't know about the rest of them. I'm thinking a few days maybe...

well if they are still announcing testers, it seems very unlinkely we will see the M8 in november. As for the licence well no one can be sure. All we can hope is that it comes through sooon.

Actually if you read the post I linked, JW said they would get the license in early November and start selling it then (if I understand it correctly from google translation)

Hopefully that is true, we've been waiting for it for about what is it, one year of delays now?

Well at least something is getting done, and we actually know about it, not like Apple, who secretly develops their products, and waits until everything is done then announce the product.

Beats being given a release date and then having it constantly delayed for like a year
