New Firmware to be tested by Users
Meizu is asking for 20 M6 owners to participate as testers for the new and improved version of M6 firmware, which includes Microsoft MTP and DRM10 as main features.
If you're interested (as me
) of taking part of the testing process, you need to provide your player's serial number and msn contact. Confidentiality is asked by Meizu since this version is not officially released yet and many changes and improvements will be done by testers comments.

Testing? Would that mean installing Windows Media Player and buying DRM music?
Or is it good enough to test other features looking for a glitch or bug?Last edited by PeterHamburg; 01-30-2007 at 04:51 PM.

yes, people have to have their own files, or borrow some from friends.
I guess you wont need more than 3~5 songs to test itInternet has an answer for every question out there, not likely to be always the answer you're looking for.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThis is so very disappointing!
I don't get it! Who needs MTP support when we have UMS support anyways? Does anyone know if they'll have to pay Microsoft for every new player they sell from now on?

#7 who cares, in two years DRM is dead.
by oktober, itunes gotta open up, or they have to stop selling in norway (and soon after Denmark, Sweden, France and more european countries)
The only thing copy protection ever has done is to make it harder to be legal...

yeah but unfortunately its not yet 2009

Besides that its not about DRM but about being able to contribute to the development of Meizu

agreed. I dont use DRM at all but, as Job said is part of development, this way we can actually help and get more attention from Meizu in what we want to see and have regarding functionality of M6

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsTo be honest, I will be very surprised if DRM is the only added feature. After all they want people to test just that feature. I am sure some other issues will be addressed, mainly USB OTG.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsWell I really hope those of you who are chosen to test it will tell Meizu that you don't need, nor want, the MTP and DRM functionality, that it takes up precious space (remember how big 1.010 was compared to 1.009? It was said that that was to prepare the way for the next firmware, but what if all that extra space is take up to support MTP and DRM? What if we could get rid of those extra, was it 10, MBs by not supporting DRM? That would be awesome!), and that it makes the player less attractive to a lot of consumers. And it also takes up the developers times, time that they could spend addressing the issues that their customers really care about (and there are enough of those issues, just take a look in the firmware wishlist thread). Hopefully we can get them to change their minds on this!

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThe extra space is certainly not reserved for DRM. Such a funtion should not take more than a couple MBs. My guess that they will finally deliver the USB OTG functionality plus re-organise the player's firmware structure so that is optimised. This way the player will gain some additonal hours of battery life, much in the same way as Samsung did with their YP-Z5 where they manages to increase it by around 9 hours.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI don't care what they will add, as long as they keep the UMS mode. Without it, my miniplayer would become a useless peace of electronic waste and would be on ebay within seconds.
There are so many miniplayer users who don't use windows or who don't want to be forced into using MTP mode. I always though of the miniplayer as an alternative, independent dap that is not focused on the products of one major company like most of the other dap manufacturers are... Why would meizu change that?
UMS is, besides the support of open formats, the only reason why I bought this player!

Yeah... the drag and drop is one of the best features of the Meizu.
I don't think it will be taken away though.
most companies who use intermediary software such as itunes etc do that to keep copyright problems of their back right?
Apple uses itunes because(among other reasons) that way the files cant be copied back from the ipod to another computer thus preventing the spread of illegal files...
Since Meizu is a Chinese company I don't think they care much about stuff like that

They newer said anything about dropping UMS support.
Most of the cheapest players are UMS, but plays Protected WMA... Why should Meizu not able to do the same.
They won't take features away, and absolutely not such an important feature.
You will just get extra features. (Making it able to play WMA drm, not that we need it)
I even own to protected cd's, only bought them because they were very cheap, got one of the best danish releases last year, on the release date, at a third of the price.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postsi'd volunteer but i don't use wmp (although it's installed in my computer) and i don't own any drm music. :D
i don't particularly care if they add the mtp as long as they don't remove the ums.
and is there any way to make the firmware to take up less space? just a thought.
