I'm kinda thinking more in terms of Cool & Quiet technology they employ in newer AMD CPU's. By scaling down the Mhz frequency of the CPU when doing less intesive tasks (eg playing mp3's only) and increasing the clock speed for multitasking (watching photos and playing FLAC files etc).
This method is quite effective in reducing power consumption, but whether they/samsung have the capability of implementing such a feature into their processors is another question.
Regardless of how it works, if it doesnt introduce a compromise to the M6, its a darn welcoming feature of the new firmware.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsMaybe they employed someone who is good at optimising assemble code rather using higher level language, eg replace hundreds of lines of inefficient code with 30 to 50 of efficient lines of code. it would allow faster routines and there for slow processor cycles for same amount of decoding.
I wonder if this will be for both TP and or SP ,maybe Samsung has given them some tips or lent them a software engineer to improve the firmware and hence the sale of Samsung parts.
Is there any other differences in TP vs SP apart from the display changing from Toshiba to Samsung?

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsWow, that is cheap! If Meizu manage to mass-market the miniPlayer it could be huge.
What about the price for the 2Gb and 4Gb? You did mention some price drops.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsDo we have an estimate of when the 8GB will be released?
It might force me to delay my purchase of a 4GB!

maybe I should sell my old player and buy the new one NOW, because the prices are the same.
I'm so excited to see the new firmware and to get my hands on this new model

20 to 36 hours? No way
. Technically impossible. Optimising a firmware that much would give you the Nobel price
If it's not a HW change we're talking about.. I'd guess they maybe have said 3-6 hours more and that some missunderstanding have occured along the way from china
Not all CPUs can have this smart controll depending on usage. If not implemented so far then I would be very surprised if they start using it at this moment.
Missunderstanding is my bet

yeah i think Peter@Jays has a point...
fromk 20 to 36 seems to be too much of an increase...
if that were possible other brands would have done it before...
maybethe 8Gb version has some diffrent hardware and gets 36 hours playtime butthat one wont be out any soon i guess

Another possibility is that the playtime is meant in perfect conditions. Perhaps when the screen turns off after 0.5 seconds and stays off for the next 36 hours.
What seems more likely to me is that they simply use different hardware in the next players.

I think the same... 16hours is way tooo much for a simple firmware upgrade!!
...even if Samsung did something interesting with a firmware upgrade for his YP-Z5 player, just some months ago, raising the battery life from 40h to 48h!! (LINK)
*finger crossed*

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThat's so unrealistic man.. 36 hours on an old Meizu.. don' tell me they decrease the power of the volume or some part of the system to save power.
The screen turn off thing has a good point to it.
Btw , I"m asian so I'll celebrate the holiday with meizu and others asians... hehehe

I know when
OOps, god, thanks finally i can reach this page and write something here due to the severe disruption of my internet access by the earthquake in taiwan(26th, Dec, damage telecommunication cables under ocean).
I can tell you when the 8GB M6 will release. In March. According to meizu manager, he said because the price of flash chip is currently rather volatile, he'd rather postpone the release to March when the price will be stable so that they can confirm the final price for the 8 version m6.
And the battery life boost to 36 hours only confines to audio play(Flac, Mp3, Ape, WMA loseless), but the Ape format support won't included in the next firmware because it is still under test, it will be added after the next firmware version.
Also the OTG function is acctually feasible long long ago, but meizu did not add it becuase it only has 100K-200K speed to transfer data. And "they feel shameful about it". But under the pressure of meizu users, they may add this function.
That's all the news i got from the official Chinese forum and are confirmed.
Btw, do not criticize my English cause I'm Chinese, not native english speaker,~~~~~~~~Last edited by eleclee; 01-26-2007 at 03:17 AM. Reason: The OTG SPEED SHOULD BE 200K--300K
