Most touch screen devices are only able to support single point contact, so if you touch the screen at two points it will only register the first point of contact.

The iPhone has the ability to react to contact at multiple points at the same time for instance keyboard and zoom function. As I understand Apple have put a patent on the multi-touch system so it unlikely that the M8 will support the feature.

but is there only one way to 'multi-touch'? can't Meizu come up with their version of it? isn't the 'multi-touch' feature on the iphone one of it's best and coolest assets? otherwise, why would someone buy the Meizu over the iphone? isn't the idea here to build a better and cheaper version of the iphone?

as this brief article indicates: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multitouch
multitouch was in development for many years prior to it's incorporation in the iphone. I believe other companies have however developed other similar multiple input touch screen systems. I suspect it would be very difficult for meizu to copy this aspect of the iphones interface due to it's complex nature, lengthy development and high cost. I doubt they have the expertise tbh, If they cannot even fix a few glitches in the m6's firmware, there is NO way they could create their own multi-touchesque interface. In terms of the m8 as a cheaper and better iphone alternative, I don't think this was ever mentioned by meizu as their intention, people juist presumed this was the case. While multitouch does add to the user experience it is only one small feature. Meizu's m8 (if it ever gets released) is supposed to trump the iphone in a number of other (arguably more important) departments. Notably: screen res, processor speed, addition of USB OTG, unlocked for use on any carrier, price, audio and video format support, size and in other areas too. The debate is subjective however as it will come down to individual opinion, plus the m8 is not out yet and will not be for a VERY long time.

thanks for clearing this up... as you say, I was under the impression that the Meizu 8 would have all the iphones' key features and then some... I do appreciate the ways in which it will try to be better... I have never been an Apple fan as I find Apple and their followers to be somewhat arrogant... perhaps with reason though... I will try to wait until the Meizu 8 arrives and hope it at least has wi-fi...
Thanks again for all your input...
cheers...

All getting off topic...

It looks really good. Now, only if we can get a real word on release date...
