What We Know About the Meizu M8 MiniOne

There is no news on the Meizu M8 MiniOne, but recently there has been an article circulating around the net claiming otherwise.

Originating from PMP Today, the article is composed of two pieces of information; an email from a Meizu representative and a [very shaky] product page from an internet mobile phone dealer. The article claims to have 2 new pieces of information on the upcoming M8. However, both pieces are flawed.
  1. Price: The article claims that the M8 will cost $989 USD. This information is taken from the product page of Negri Electronics. First of all, Negri Electronics is by no means a reliable source - as discussed on HowardForums. Secondly, the Negri Electronics product page for the Meizu M8 has been there for around 5 months now - without any change. At the time of creation, Meizu had not announced pricing for the M8. The $989 USD price can at best be an estimation made by the Negri Electronics owner.
  2. Release Date: The article claims that the Meizu MiniOne will be released in early 2008, the source being an email from a Meizu representative. However, the letter is merely the standard reply from them regarding the M8 release date. It was revealed already many months ago that the M8 is set to be released in late 2007 or early 2008. Nothing has changed, and the letter does not refute the old release date. The M8 will be released in late 2007 or early 2008.
To clear up any further confusion, we have compiled a list of what we really know about the Meizu M8 MiniOne.

All We Know About the Meizu MiniOne
  • The Meizu M8 MiniOne is still under development.
  • It is due to be released in late 2007 to early 2008.
  • What the current Meizu M8 MiniOne specifications are.
  • Meizu are currently having problems acquiring necessary cellphone licenses in time, and that they may release a non-phone M8 where cellphone functions can later be added with an add-on.
  • The current pricing for the 4, 8 and 16GB models are 2000, 2500 and 3500 CNY respectively. That is approximately 260, 330 and 460 $USD.

that sounds just right, the whole Negri Electronics thing is fake, the Meizu MiniOne wouldnt cost that much, since its being sold as a alternative to the iPhone, which is expensive (i brought one yesterday to test out), and is better than the iPhone, i just wished they used Carl Zeiss optics, and a Tessar lens for the camera

Negri's probably just trying to feed off impatient people with some sort of high-priced pre-order type deal. That or its completely fake. Nice job on the thread Err0r, it should clear up any future rumors on the boards.

The way it looks now GPS could be an add-on feature, check the M8 specs page.

I heard that it would be coming out around then for the holidays, but if there are any delays it would most likely be released in Jan. 2008 (when i say coming out around the holidays that means it could come out in the late 3rd Quarter)

yeah engadget is crazy, i posted a reply on their mOne blogging.

"Thomas Ricker, as long as you release information, be fair, cause we also know the meizu mOne has pricings at half of what your link points to, as dubious as it is.

We could also be realistic, as much as you support apple, especially from the vibe I have been receiving over the past few posts against meizu and for apple (small but noticeable), apple is not going to be a winning underdog of sorts. Their monopolized operating system/computers will only ever be for higher middle class and up (thats who it well ever be reserved for) and with the ipod showing obvious flaws and being dated its a matter of time b4 that player ends up on an equal playing ground. As with this iphone extravaganza, its great to have blog posts about it but please do not set up competition of the iphone to fault, especially the mOne for ridicule with sources that aren't so reliable.

So now i pose this question to everyone, is the touchscreen technology, camera , web, and media functions just restricted to one apple iphone? Meizu might use similar prototypes but their designs have always been better in form and functionality (as well as other non ipod players). their firmware is not the best, but its always seeing improvements.

In the end what I'm trying to say is, give other companies a chance; its an international market nowadays. Go for functionality first because usability is nothing more than a candy wrapper. iphone is great now, but you better hope developers start doing something with the web 2.0 applications for it, or else its going to be stagnant"

its really sad, i totally feel endgadget is in on it too

I am aware of that but i don't like to have a second devise. The nice thing from this phone is that it tries to combine many nice features, so i would like GPS inside

About the price, I agree that it won't cost that much. To be really successful, given the popularity, and the overwhelming news coverage of iPhone, to be able to have any success, M8 should have better specs (like bigger storage, more features, etc.) and a 15-20% lower price at least for the top model.

Have you ever owned or used a device with builtin GPS? Do you know what the battery time is like on such devices, if/when you actually use the GPS?

Why would you leave it on when not needed? same for other stuff like wifi, bluetooth etc. GPS is mostly used in the car and then you can just charge up... But i don't really know the power usage since i have only used GPS in a car so never bothered to take a notice.

Why have it builtin if you're not going to use it? How many hours do you usually use BT straight? Typically when using GPS it is for a longer trip correct? Again have you used devices with builtin GPS'? You need a while for it to find the satellites. Since as you put it its mostly used in the car, why not just have a BT GPS reciever that's connected to the car power and thereby worryless. At this point my experience is that builtin GPS is more cons than pros at this point.
