Sounds like Meizu is truly listening to their fans once again. A few hours ago one of their engineers posted on the company's BBS about future firmware update plans and it seems the Meizu MX and their previous phone, the M9 will receive both vanilla and Flyme OS updates in the future. He also mentioned the M9's vanilla ICS update is already working fine but needs some fine tuning before they can release it to the public. We're sure this will help Meizu reach out to new customers and they'll be able to get one step closer to international markets as well as keep their not-so-happy customers.
What do you think? Is this a good step forward?

Though it would be nice to get an ETA on the MX's version.

This is really awesome! I'm glad they're doing it both ways because I actually do like flyme OS in some ways. Can't wait to test it.

Thanked 1 Time in 1 PostI'm sorry, but what is Flyme OS exactly ???
Also will we be able to use the current temproot hack with ICS or will we eventually be able to eally own our devices and have full root ?

Seems like this is a fake. The developer at Meizu stated that they have not implemented the Google applications yet.

FlyMe is basically what we're using now, with a few tweaks for the MX, and includes all of Meizu's extra 'services' Eg. Mstore, Phone location, MZAccount etc.
My guess (and hope) is that the Vanilla ICS will not have these features built in, but will be the standard Google implementation of Android 4.x. As for rooting, well that remains to be seen, again I speculate that it will not come unlocked, but I do hope that they will leave it as future-hackable as any other ICS device.
The current temproot hacks are unlikely to work, as it has been reported that the Zergrush exploit has been plugged in ICS, and the Levitator exploit doesn't work with anything newer than A.2.3.6*. The good news (if MZ leave the system alone) is that we should be able to use future hacks for standard ICS, apart from those that use the method of flashing a custom recovery file - as I can't begin to imagine that MZ will unlock our boot-loaders.
You can bet your bottom dollar though, that there will be a hell of a lot more hackers working to crack ICS than FlyMe
*Levitator will definately not work for the MX, as it is specific to the PowerVR SGX GPU.Last edited by Straylight; 01-02-2012 at 11:10 AM.

the MX is sentenced to come rootable when you buy it in HK store. Carl said you will see the difference in packing to see which unit you buy.

True, but there is a difference between rootable and rooted, it still relies on someone being interested enough to hack the phone, compile a custom recovery ROM, or find a relevant exploit.

Well that's good news - going to start a 'MX Rooting and Modding' thread?
Is it in fact an unlocked system?
BTW, can you ask the engineers if they can confirm and maybe give some kind of ETA for the ICS update?
The other thing I was wondering was if MZ plan to discontinue the M9, or keep it as an 'entry level' device to draw people into the fold? From a selfish perspective, I suppose what I want to know is how long they plan on providing firmware support for the M9, given that @Carl has said here that they were never happy with it.Last edited by Straylight; 01-03-2012 at 10:31 AM.
