Meizu More Expensive In China
Several days ago, Meizu initiated a Chinese nation-wide raise of prices, which according to them was inevitable seeing extreme raise in flash memory prices.
The new prices for the M6 Mini Player is 599/750/1050 CNY (approx. 80/100/135 USD) for capacities 2/4/8 GB, up from 599/699/999 CNY.
New prices for the M3 Music Card are as follows: 500/650/950 CNY (approx. 65/85/120 USD) for models of 2/4/8 GB capacities respectively, up from 500/599/899 CNY.
No word on whether or not International prices will follow. If not, this might be positive. Seeing that domestic Chinese prices are closer to the International prices, customers might me less prone to purchase unauthorized players from China.

If they raise the price of the player in the west even more that wont be good for sales...
The chinese increase in price is minimal though and the player still gives great value for money

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsIt's like a 5 dollar increase...
So what happens when the flash drives go back down in price? Will Meizu lower the prices?
I don't think so. I think "rising flash drive prices" is just an excuse to raise the price, which in no way is expensive anyway. I have no problem with it, I just think that when the price goes down, Meizu should follow as well since that's the reason the price went up.

Yeah, but they should have larger margins abroad - so it.
They won't face much problems domestically as all manufacturers (if they haven't already) will be forced to raise.
@ laxx - A small increase, but they are perhaps also earning less per unit now.Can't wait to play with the Meizu MX!

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postsmy belief on this is pressure from Dane-Elec... according to some sources there was tension between Meizu and Dane-Elec over pricing issues outside of China and the fact that Dane-Elec was having to sell to its retailers at above the retail price in China... who knows for sure.

Normally you buy large volumes of i.e flashmemorys to not be vulnerable due to changes on the market. Apple payed Samsung like zillions of dollars to get flash mems only to them. I guess MEIZU with their volumes nowadays would do the same. Or?

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsAlmost...
Example of what occurs: (example of course)
====================
Apple: Hi Samsung, we're making a great new version of the iPod Nano (8GB) and will need 14 million 4GB Flash chips. (production run of 7 million units)
Samsung: Very nice, we can offer you a price of $10 per chip
NoName MP3 Mfg: Hi Samsung, we're releasing a new flash player (8GB) to market and need 200,000 4GB Flash chips. (production run of 100K units)
Samsung: Very nice, we can offer you a price of $45 per chip
====================
Hence, a little thing called: Economies of Scale
Apple is such a Titan of the portable world that they can literally order millions of chips in this case or hard drives and drive their production costs way down which in turn drives down retail costs while still providing an excellent margin for them based on huge volume.For a Great Selection of Meizu Brand Equipment & Accessories with WorldWide Shipping

It's Samsung raising the price of flash modules as said in the article.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsBut that's not addressing how the prices went up. You're just explaining how their original price was higher than Apples to begin with. Instead it's more like...
NoName MP3 Mfg: Hi Samsung, we need more 8gig flash chips!
Samsung: Very nice! We can't offer them to you at the price previously given. Sorry we have to raise it $5 per chip.

Strange...I got my Meizu 4GB miniplayer in Beijing last week for 699RMB which also included a skin case and official charger. My Meizu player also happened to be both sides black ^_^
It was at that big IT district where there are tons of dealers for these kind of products!
