Last Month's BIG Stories: Feb. 2011 Recap

This is the start of my monthly recap of the news and interesting threads on MeizuMe in that month. You know, in case you were gone and missed anything.

In the realm of interesting threads, there are a couple. First, are you a proud owner of an M9 but find the stock video player to be lacking? So did a couple of MeizuMe members. Join the conversation and check out some of the alternative players.

As you may know, Meizu have been rolling out new M9 firmware like crazy this past month. The latest (leaked) version, V1.0.3-15405, is said to provide a huge I/0 improvement. Some have reported getting 2111 point benchmark on this Firmware.

Speaking of firmware, we all want things to be added or fixed in it. Check out the "Meizu M9 Firmware Wishlist" thread and add to it or see if your "wish" has already been added in the latest firmware releases. Of course, updates don't mean the M9 is perfect yet, so check out the "List of known bugs on the Meizu M9" thread to keep up on the current bugs/issues with the M9.

Obviously the M9 is the hot topic right now, but don't forget that its successor is said to be but a few months away. On that note, our admin, Err0r, has added the M9II sub-forum. Also, let's not forget about our dear old M8. For all you Android lovers, a new kernel was released for the M8.

And finally, as always, if you've ordered or received an M9, be sure to have your say at the "'I just ordered / bought / got my Meizu M9' thread" which, coincidentally, may also help you find out where other MeizuMe members got their M9 from.

News

• Starting off the month of February, the folks over at Engadget surprisingly paid a visit to our beloved Meizu's HQ in Zhuhai. Sadly, during their visit, no J. Wong to be found. Maybe next time.
  
• A few days after Engadget's visit, Meizu released the first version of the M9 SDK. Mind you, it is only a beta. However, a beta is is better than nothing.
  
• In "not Meizu-specific but relevant, nonetheless" news, Google launched the online PC version of their Android Market.
  
• Two weeks after the launch of the browser-based market, J. Wong provided an update on the M8 to M9 upgrade program. This time, he says that the upgrade program will consist of turning in a faulty M8, in order to receive an discount (of an as of yet undisclosed amount) on the M9.
  
• Sure, this next piece of "news" turned out to be BS, but it's worth mentioning. On the Meizu BBS, someone claimed that Apple's iOS was ported to the M8! The even weirder part? It was someone on MeizuMe who ported it! Yeah, but as aforementioned, it turned out to be a false claim lost in translation.
  
• And rounding up the news for February 2011, it was reported that Meizu CEO Jack Wong is considering removing the charger from the Meizu M9 bundle due to quality issues.
