    GPS problem? Need confirmation!

UPDATE: This issue is now fixed on MX with the release of Flyme 1.1.1. M9 won't be fixed however.

I've always had issues with GPS tracking apps such as Endomondo or Noom CardioTrainer. Basically everything works fine until the screen turns off (or you turn it off manually) and after that it can't track my route anymore. I've reported this issue several times to Meizu but they couldn't seem to reproduce the issue, so I need you to test it to give them more feedback. They said it should also work while the screen is off...
So next time you take a walk or go for a bike ride (or just drive around) please try and test the following:

    - Download either Endomondo or CardioTrainer
    - Turn on GPS and wait until it locks on a satellite
    - Start a workout and make sure screen stays on
    - Check it 5-10 minutes later - everything should be fine up to this point, your route will be drawn on the map
    - Now turn off the screen and continue your route
    - Check again in 5-10 minutes by turning on the screen

For me the time between screen off and screen on does not get recorded and the only way to track a workout is to leave the screen on which is obviously very battery consuming. How about you?

Thanks for taking the time to do this!

Please include the following info in your feedback:

    Software version: 2.0.6-12175
    Baseband: .173
    Model: MX HK

    Hi,

Here's my review, I tryed what you said but I didn't have any trouble ! The app works fine when screen is on. After the screen turns off, when turning on the device, the map will be updated in 1 or 2 seconds and show to correct draw on the map ; (note : I didn't turn off my screen by using the power button but let it turn off itself)

    Application : Endomondo
    Software version: 2.0.5-11316_zh-HK
    Baseband: 02.1142.00-169
    Model: MX HK
    Connection : GPS + EDGE

So I wasn't able to recreate your bug but i'll try again later and edit this post. Otherwise, is this problem maybe related to the fact that some function will be closed after the screen is off ? (like Wifi. Maybe the GPS function turns off when you close the screen ?)

I'm starting to think this issue might be country specific... Can't imagine how, but it seems to work ok for people in China.

Did you ever sort this out? I'm getting my MX this week and a big Endomondo user as well.

Unfortunately not, another Meizu engineer promised to take a look at it but I never got an answer. I guess we'll have to wait for ICS Flyme and test it with that again.

I tried endomondo and I had the same problem. My route wasn't recorded while the screen off. Also I wanted to use igo navigation when cycling, but I only wanted the voice with earphones and the phone in my pocket, obviously with screen turned off, but the gps connection got lost so I had to leave the screen on, though it might be application related so that igo programmers wanted it like that and not meizu's fault.

Hi, I have the same problem with endomondo. I can't record my workout, I can only record the time, but not the route... I would be happy for any problem solution.

Tried the ICS beta and pretty much every app that uses GPS tracking (runtastic, endomondo) just force closes on start up. Google Maps seems to work though however.

    Seemingly 1.1.5 solved the problem!
