........we're going to end up in one of those debates that settles on everything being derivative...though I must admit there is a striking similarity.

I think we're going to have to wait a while before we see anything truly original, having said that Moto have been, IMHO, doing the best so far. If I had the cash, I might be very much in the market for a new RAZR - instead I'm just sitting here growing a beard

    Yaawwnn boring stuff man.
Who did copy what is just so lame. If you ask me from the pics the Meizu looks way better.
Also smartphones look like this, you cant invent the wheel new.

From testing a few smartphones now i can say the M9 is really nicely done software and hardware wise.
I think the MX will beat the Huawei by looks, software and hardware design.

Who cares if the Huawei looks a little like the MX or vice versa ?

I wouldnt say anyone one copied any phone design here, only the product image composition is very similar.

There are similarities, but yeah, promotional graphics do tend to smooth over reality. Photos of the Huawei show a rather different beast. But who knows what goes on behind the scenes? Huawei is an 800 lb. gorilla of a company and I doubt there's anything happening in the telecoms business in China that they don't know something about. Considering their size and muscle, it probably took them a fraction of the time to whip up the Honor as it took little ol' Meizu. As MXon's post hints at, the Honor was also designed to be configured to customers' specs...it's sold as either a WCDMA or CDMA phone, for example. Apparently even the front cams can be different.

This is a popular topic on the Meizu BBS, too.

I'm currently reviewing the RAZR, and I can say one thing: Do not buy it.

Even though the dockingstation is pretty nice, the hardware is nowhere powerful enough for that solution. Perhaps with the next generation CPU/GPU.

I wasn't going to anyway, as it would be an entirely frivolous purchase. There's just something about the design that's rather different, and that I find strangely attractive...

If you're talking purely about design, though, then the nokia n9 and lumia series are the devices that are ahead of the rest, for me. (of the devices currently on the market)

Those shots of the n9 running ICS that have been doing the rounds on the blogs have only managed to make me more interested in buying one when the price starts to go down...

N9 with ICS? sounds great! Here in Germany Nokia is almost dead, you find it very very sparse in customer hands.
I think they missed the train by going with Windows or meego and not with Android.

If they'd gone with android, they woulb be in direct competition with Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola, Sony etc
With Windows they can start from scratch while having a large company guarding its back.

sure the competition would be much more harder if they would have chosen Android, but with Windows or meego they having a niche product and I don't know if that way their intention. Sure enough microsoft is very big and they might have the stablest FW because of the bulit quality, but it is a niche. Nobody knows what the future will bring to android google or microsoft. Maybe the whole thing changes completely

but let us get BACK TO TOPIC

copy or not, without the wheel where we stay today?
one of the first what every designer learning in the school: the function determine the design.
like a car: have normaly 4 wheels, a engine, some windows and some doors. is enough for driving from a to b.
all the other things is a question of personaly taste and not important for the function of the device.

Anyway it's kind of a moot point since the Honor is about to be trumped by the Ascend P1 and everyone's attention will turn to the Next Big Thing.
