Newton's rings on Meizu MX
Hey folks,
yesterday I recognized a some kind oil slick under my MX display. I googled the phenomenon and it is called 'newton's rings'. I know this kind of manufactoring error of the Samsung 10.1 Tab.
It looks like this:

The phenomenon is a prism effect caused by varying thickness of air between two pieces of glass.
As I went out in the cold the slick disappeared after a short period of time. But when I carry my MX in my trouser pocket for some time it is there again.
Strangly it appears only under neon tube light let's say artificial light. Out in sunlight they are not visible anymore. But because I work in an office they are there all the time.
Does someone of you have the same issue?
I already found a thread on the BBS which is about it. Maybe someone of you understands the google translater better then me. Does Meizu placed any official answer to this issue! I'm going to get crazy when I have to return my MX. When it is a manufactoring error this will be my last Meizu product.Last edited by iceman#1; 01-18-2012 at 02:03 PM.

no one can say something to that issue?
I just did a photo of it.
I did slightly bend the MC over a pencil. Then the display touches the glass itself. When you stop bending you barely can see the rings, but they are there, all the time. I did very sparse bending, like the phone would get bend in a trouser pocket. I had an even bigger slick after I pulled it out of my pocket the day before yesterday. I was sitting in my office chair for some time and I pulled it out and there was this big slick. If it would be only there when it get's bend over a pencil, I wouln't care! But in my pocket I do care a lot, cause I did not experience this with any other phone I had. Looks like there is too little space between display and screen. I tried the same thing with my M9 even with more bendig, but nothing was there.
I guess I have to return my MX. Like I had to with my M8 back then. I hate that. I should have resist the MX.

What would be the best way to bring back the MX for repair/replacement? I would let the one who bought it go back into the meizu store and hand it over. Would that work? And if yes, what would they need beside the MX and the warranty receipt? Do I have to send back the whole packing? Back with the M8 I had to pull out the battery because it is not allowed to ship batteries. Now with a nonremovable battery, what to do?Last edited by iceman#1; 01-19-2012 at 05:12 AM. I don't know any answers, but I know this also happened with my M9 home button.

with the home button? You mean because of it's two layers of plastic with air between? I wouldn't care if it's the button!
You really can see that the display touches the glas, because when you have the display enlighted you can see these rings making different colors and chaging the display looks. Like you tap your finger onto the screen of your desktop PC or laptop. That can't be good for a touch sensitive display. Because the touch does not work because of pressure but because of some kind electricity caused by your fingerLast edited by iceman#1; 01-19-2012 at 05:16 AM.

Thanked 46 Times in 41 PostsYou'll have to replace it. I'm surprised Meizu's QC didn't catch this.

hope it is not any psychical damage or it was have any pressure on that area? what is the cause exactly it has stats automatically??

they Meizu QC didn't catch it because you only see it when you bend the phone or when you have it in your trouser pocket for some time. So your leg in the upper part is not plane and when you set the phone get's bend slightly, that's normal. Then the rings appear and the glass got stuck to the display until you bring it in cold climate.
Bhavin, no there is no physical damahe so far, but it can occur in some time. and what for you need a 4" display when there is a slick on it. It's very annoying!
@ Cyber
how do I going to replace it? What would be the best method?
----------------------
no one else got the problem? I wonder why? Because it looks like it is because of the small space between dsiplay and glass. Maybe you who already have a MX can perform a little try. Just bend the MX a little by pulling the upper and down part apart from you and pushing the middle to you. Just a slight bend is enough. Not that you break anything. Second method would be to press with both thumbs a little more on the screen. The rings should appear in the middle.
maybe it is a normal thing with the MX because of the large screen and of the thickness... Not I get a replacement and it ahs the same issue, then I would keep it in the first place.Last edited by iceman#1; 01-19-2012 at 11:05 AM.

That's not normal. I didn't seen this on other smartphones before. I hope it is just faulty and you could replace it, because i don't want this on my MX when i get this in future. If it would be only visible when you see this while the screen is off, but like you said, you can see this even the display is on. That's not good...
I hope some people can test this with ther phones, and write us a positive message.

I guess no one wants to really test it! Yes it is faulty I guess! But I don't know where to send it for repair! My co-worker was in China over New Year and bought it for me. Brought it back and now I have it hear in germany. So I have a CN version! But I want to send it to HK if that is possible, because of the better support there. I hope someone can help me in finding the right address and all.
Next thing is I don't know what they need. Just the phone and the warranty receipt or anything else too, like the packing? Back then with my M8 I only had to send the phone without battery and back cover. But this time it is different you all know why.
Hope for help. But I guess now it times of New Year in China there is not going to be much help.MX-HK, M9, M8, M6SL

Thanked 1 Time in 1 PostIve goten the same isue with a cheap China phone in the past. I did also carry it in the throwsers.
I beleave if you sweat and you have thouse phones near your skin some of the sweatsteam goes there and then building little drops between thouse layers. Since its hard for the water to go away once stuck there u will see that issue because the water breaks the light a little different.Meizu M8 FE 8Gig and Meizu M9 8Gig owner.

that was my guess too! But it has something to do with the display too. It is bulit in with tension, that's why it 'bens' very little at one point. And this point is too near the glass. I carried all my phones in my front trouser pocket so far. some even where a little clammy after a run or so, but no one had the rings. Not even the M9. I for example checket the Moto Defi of my co-worker. the space between display and glass is much bigger ass with the MX.
If non of you had that issue with your MX I'm pretty confident that I will not have it again after it got repaired/replaced
them? which email? I already sent a mail to the HK sales. So far I'm not sure if I can send the phone, because I remember they said you are not allwoed to send batteries with post, back then with the M8 touch issue.MX-HK, M9, M8, M6SL

I now know that it only occurs when you bend the phone. For example in your front-side trouser pocket like me. When you are sitting the jeans is pretty tight and aligns with your thigh and cause your thigh is not plane the phone gets bend. The MX is pretty easy to bend in contrary to the M9. Maybe because of it's size...
So when you put your MX into your jacket pocket or elsewhere where the MX has enough space, that phenomenon will mainly not occur. For me I have to change my habbits sticking my phone into the trousers pocket. because I have 12 months of warranty I will try to live with it. when the problem gets more serious I will return it. So far it works well.MX-HK, M9, M8, M6SL

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsTwo days ago I had the same problem on my MX , when I got home I cleaned the screen and they disappeared.
Yesterday they were still gone so I was hoping the problem was fixed. But when I got outside today , they appeared again. (I looks like they come back when the phone gets cold ).
Is there a solution for these rings ? (I found it very strange they only appear when it is cold).
@iceman : How did you manage to get them away ?
