    Switch off at 40%

My M9 since buying switches always at 40% battery capacity. But after switching off it has 3V that means it is completely discharged so there is only problem that 40% should be 0%.

I have not found similar problem described at this forum. Have or had someone similar problem?

I have updated FW week after getting it. It was half of year back. Should I upload latest firmware - I haven't found any fix regarding this problem?

    Thanks.

Could be a battery issue. You can purchase a new and see if it helps.

Why it should be battery. It has exactly 3,5V when phone switches off on 40% capacity. It is not random it seems like sw problem bacause battery is just a cell with temperature sensor. There is no intelligence in the battery. Anyway for some reason I'm going to buy new batteries so we will see.

Update> This is my first android phone. I have not found any guide how to update firmware and keep data and settings. All my friends has phones that updates FW from google automatically. Could someone write how to do it? If I ask something you positive know that is on this forum, hint me with keywords I should search. Thanks.

Correction: Battery at 40% level has 3V. When I remove it from device it really has 3V after switch off. I can see that between 3,5 and 3 it goes down very fast, but it is normal for litium-ion batteries. I think that my phone just only incorrectly compute percentage. Is there way how to calibrate battery parameters in the android?

How long does your battery last you?? In other words how long does it take for it to turn off?

For instructions on how to update your firmware, look at the sticky posts in the m9 firware forum.. It's as easy as downloading a file onto your sd card and then rebooting...

I charge each night. At evening it is usually at 50 or 60% (recounted to "40%=dead" it is 15-35% left) and I'm using phone during the day. If it is left during weekend without doing anything it is at evening somewhere below 80% (66% left). I think that some time it can live 2 days when I'm not using it.

I have silly question regarding update. I know how to do update. What I do not know if I will loose all data. I had several windows mobile before this one and there update windows means total reset, all stuff had to be reinstalled, because it deleted whole internal memory space. Is it same with android? If so I will have to prepare for update. Or is there any application that can scan and then reinstall all stuff from marketplace?

    thax.

My M9 was now on 10 days with a full charge and still had 25% battery left. Granted i was in standby most of the time only a few calls and some applications.

So i suggest make a firnware upgrade with cleaning data and if that dont help buy a new battery ( but that i already told you ).

Thanks for suggestion,, but I still do not know if there is a simple way how to restore applications without writing down all of them to paper and ten reinstalling them.

    Rather easy:

    - download an app from the market called Appsaver, use it to backup all your apps to the SDcard. NB. This may take a while so be patient.
    - Move/copy all of the apk files in the newly created 'appsaver' folder, to the 'AutoInstallAPK' folder (if you don't have one, then create it, paying heed to the case of the name).
    - Update your FW, and everything in AutoInstallAPK will be installed on first boot of the new FW.
    - Done!

NB: all your data will be wiped including any progress in games, contacts etc. If you wish to use the data backup in your current FW, then you'll need the app from here: Restore for V2.0.5-11191 in order to restore, so you could put the apk file into AutoInstallAPK before updating the FW. This is due to the fact that the backup/restore function has been stripped from the most recent firmwares.

It seems I will NOT do the update.

The phone always reports "update file not found...."

I have used my 8GB card that is normaly in the phone. Then I used 2GB card formated to FAT16. Same result. Formated to FAT32. No update... what else I can do?

I have tested almost everything except original SD that was not working with the phone, but it works with PC reader well. I will try it when I find it.

I have deeply search internet and found similar ways. Thanks anyway. I have done autoinstall folder, backuped data but now I can not update for unknown reason.

Sorry missed one of your posts...

make sure the Update.bin file is on the root of the SDcard, not in any folders, also make sure the suffix to the file is .bin not .zip.

Apologies if you have already done this..Try formatting the card in the phone.

Yes. I have it in empty SD only this file. Problem is that it worked only with 8G noname card I got with phone. But this card does not work in the phone after android startup. If anything is written to this card by phone or using USB cable to the phone, than periodicaly some sectors are completely zero. I did not investigated the period but it mich be something like every 8th sector is empty. The phone did not worked with it. Any application that used card was doing crazy things. After replacing with kingstone 8GB card it is ok.
I expect that that noname card was very slow card or very fast card that bootloader expect. May be it is fast card, because all my cards are (4) speed, as I buy the slowest one to save money. I do not believe I do not need speed in phone. The bottleneck is always somewhere else (internet connection).

I have done update. All app installed automatically after update. That was OK, but application MyBackup did backup but after update there were no backup files on the SD, only mess in temporary folder and 2 and half applications backed up from 72 total applications. no data backup. But I have lots of files in LOST+FOUND folder. It is probably because my M9 always die without correct shutting down, but I think that also during switching off before update some data were not saved to SD. So now I almost restored configurations all applications, only email account are still waiting to be set up. One evening of work behind me and one before me. I will check backup data next time before update.

But back to my problem. Great!!!! It did not switched of on 40% of battery.... but around 35% )))))))))))) Is it success? I really do not know.

I can take a battery a put it into tester and check capacity and resistance, but I do not expect any problem. I will also order 2 new batteries because I need it for holiday where might happen that I will need phone running much longer than one day. I went to bed and battery was 39%. At morning it was 35% after reconfiguring alarm clock application it died. Voltage? About 3,4V. My opinion is that this is normal for mobile that die at this voltage level, because battery in this state of charge has much higher resistance than if it is charged. Probably M9 is not able to find it do shutdown. Right, it thinks that there is 35% battery left, so why to bother with shutdown so early...

One word: nothing extraordinary happened after installing new firmware.

    ...cont

I have never tried format SD in the phone... it might be probably reason why all cards are refused. Next time I will try it...

Yes. After install new FW the phone was completely fresh.
There is some change - today it died at 35%. It always dies not shut down. It is that annoys me, because sometime some settings are not saved...
I'm going to buy new battery, but it died at 3.3V... do you know what is normal voltage when the phone should switch off?

I'm little in gsm business and at lion battery 3.3V is voltage we usually shout down the device. What I do not understand why it shows 40 or now 35% capacity and not zero. Does M9 do charge integration or just depends on the voltage of the battery? Is there any intelligent charger/algorithm that after each shut down recalculate total capacity of the battery? Probably not. Or it is there but it has not chance to recalculate capacity because whole system dies before it do it... Can anyone explain it?

Should I take battery to tester and measure internal resistance? I will have to prepare battery connection board, because we have only adapters for our batteries, not similar to meizu one... I really do not want to do it but in worst case I can do it.

Last note. Today it died on 37% with battery between 3,4 and 3,3V... after approximately 24 hours since last charge. New firmware: no improvements, no learning the capacity, no correction. Going to order new battery.
