Here comes the latest Tips & Tricks thread for the Meizu M9, enjoy!

1. When there's a long list in any application (Web Browser, Contacts, even 3rd party apps), just hit the top right corner of the screen where the clock is located to quickly scroll back to the top.

2. Press the area where the Artist - Track - Album Title is located to be able to fast forward into a song.

3. Press Home button twice on lock screen for Music controls.

4. Hold down power button to quickly mute the phone (except alarms & media).

5. Hold down the language selection key on the default Meizu keyboard to be able to switch between 3rd party keyboards.

6. Volume buttons control the digital zoom in camera.
7. To decline a call either press the power button twice (at first it will mute the call) or drag down the bar displayed below the contact name.

8. Volume and power buttons mute ringtone for incoming calls.
9. Press Home key twice to bring up the recently used applications list. This screen also works as a Task Manager app and has controls for the music player. Drag any of the icons to the bottom to stop them from running in the background.

10. Touch the screen to auto-focus in camera.
11. It’s possible to move certain applications to the SD card from Settings > Applications (not all apps support this feature)

12. Once you have opened a note from the Notepaper app you can slide your finger left or right to switch between other notes.
13. Long pressing Back key in Browser brings up History, long pressing Menu key brings up a list of currently open windows.
14. In the Gallery you can press either the left or right side of images to get to the previous/next picture. Also works in landscape mode.

15. Long press on pictures to bulk delete/share.

16. Pinch to zoom in overview mode:

17. Frozen phone? Just press and hold power button for about 10-15 seconds and it will reboot by itself, no need to remove the battery.
18. Press Back button when at home screen to lock the screen. Press again to turn off the display.
19. Enable\disable breathing light notifications from Settings > Accessibility > Light feedback
20. Manage permission for 3rd party apps (SMS and Contacts API) in Settings > Applications > Dependable Applications.

Thanked 26 Times in 18 PostsThanks n2k_u, that should be useful for when I get mine

Did you figure all these out just by playing around with it?
Also, the more screenshots I see, the more I really, really, really love the UI.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsOh thanks! I was freaking out so much because I couldn't get that CooTek keyboard to work. Didn't realize I had to select the method by holding down "eng".
On another note, do you think there will be a way to write an SMS in landscape mode? Not sure if that'd be possible or not... this is my first droid.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsAm I missing something? Where is the edit button? Maybe it's because I'm using a proxy to get here... can't attach a picture either. Oh well. Btw meizume was just blocked in China a week or two ago... lame...
I wanted to add, has anyone found out how to add custom ringtones to individuals?

Thanked 1,049 Times in 391 PostsSMS in landscape mode probably won't be available via the default SMS app. Meizu didn't implement it in the M8 either. The only option would be to use 3rd party messaging apps, but currently some APIs are locked in Meizu's Android system and those apps don't work...they are currently thinking of a way to solve this.
Custom ringtones are not possible either as far as I'm concerned.

custom ringtones have to be placed at /sdcard/ringtones
same as on m8

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts@Nice:
I see. That makes sense, it might be why some of the apps I tried to download didn't work (SMS apps).
So, if I wanted contact specific ringtones I would need an app that could do so, correct? But it might encounter that same API problem...
@Crim:
I meant custom ringtones for specific contacts. Like if Bob calls it would play one song, but if Joe called it'd play another.

Thanked 1,049 Times in 391 PostsAre you annoyed by the keyboard switching problem? Try this:
1. Since we have access to the Market, download the app called SwipePad
2. Configure if the way you like it and when you set up something for a Slot, select Settings > Language & keyboard
3. Now when you want to switch keyboard just bring up SwipePad (in any app, without quiting it), tap on that slot and you can change the settings!
4. Enjoy!

Thanked 1,049 Times in 391 PostsCustom ringtones as in contact-specific ringtones, and that's still not possible.
What do you mean the launcher failed?
You can boot up the phone by holding M+power button and that should do a soft reset (keep your files on the SD card, but loose all settings and installed apps). Or you can simply reinstall the fw.

Thanked 34 Times in 21 Postsit's not android specific. power button is the one you use to turn on the phone. the M button is the big physical button on the bottom part of the front side. it used to have a Meizu logo on the M8, that's why it's called the M-button.
so you turn the phone off first, then keep pressing the M and power buttons togeather to clear all data from the internal memory.
btw: this is called a hard reset. soft reset is when you reboot the phone afaik.略懂

Holding the power button for 10 seconds does a hard reset without the M button, just like the M8.
