    M9 Test Unit testing experiences

Our good friend Archon (developer of apps like Profile, SpaceDrifter, ...) talked to a friend who was able to test a M9 test unit. Yesterday Archon wrote me his experiences:

the speed of M9 is the speed of i9000 equal, or greater, never less

    compatible to most applications
like need for speed shift by EA

speed of web browser is slightly faster than iphone4(his device's screen is 720x480)
    especially when opening a site

sina news and weather is intergrated(useless to you)

    menus are simple

what the most improvement comparing to iphone4 is the speed of opening camera
it costs about 1.7 seconds, never greater than 2 seconds on m9 to get ready to capture a picture

there is no any restriction while reviewing pictures
he said he had tested image sized up to 7MB, no lag on opening and viewing

the whole UI is much more simple than original android

the gravity sensor is now more often used

the battery shell is not that good manufactured
    camera is worse than ip4

good news. When there are test units out there, why there are no new pictures taken?

screen of 720x480, does that mean that the browser was just 720x40 or is the screen still the old small one? So the test units have the small resolution screens?

Probably nobody is allowed to take pictures of the test units like it was with the M8 too. First test units were equipped with the old 720x480 screen but as we know Meizu has already received the new screens and most likely there are new units made with 960x640 resolution screens.

I always wanted the M9, but I don't know if I'll be able to wait. I'm really tempted to get that Orange San Francisco.
Now with this news of others test units being shown up, I'm getting more ansious.

This looks quite a bit like my Galaxy S lol!
But unlike my Galaxy S I'll bet this device's loudspeaker and audio quality will be far superior.

And as a Meizu fan, I expect great things from this device even though I won't be getting one myself. (Blew all my cash on the Galaxy S and a Palm Pre... Now I'm flat broke...)

the fact that state the camera is worse than ip4 is a letdown
i hope the mass production unit will be hell a lot better than ip4 or at least equally to ip4.

Yes I hope too because ip4 camera is really bad (wrong and saturated colors), so if it's worst...

Not likely. The iPhone 4 has a pretty good camera, though it is easily beaten by the Nokia N8. But then again that device has an awesome camera.

Anyway this is promising. Thanks! I just hope the higher resolution won't break app compatibility (though I expect that to happen) and slow down the device.

Edit: The saturated colours etc. are a software thing with the i4, and most people like that (though I'd rather do that on my computer when needed). The camera they used is pretty good as well. Who knows, perhaps the camera in the M9 is as good as the one in the i4, just that they don't do that "image enhancement" stuff and that's why the tester doesn't like it.

Thatīs right , like I said before. I like M8 cause I do not remeber when I recharged it last time....thatīs the point of it, just charge it....and after 3-4 days recharge...not like sweaty Iphone!

Ohh :O NICE! Just afraid that the m9 with the 4 inch screen might drain the battery time a lil bit faster..

Really I'd rather have a device that I need to recharge daily, but that lasts a day no matter what I do. If I wouldn't have to I would forget to charge, or I would run out of juice exactly when I really need it. It would be nice to have a dock with which you can connect it to the computer and recharge the phone + a spare battery. My first Motorola smartphone came with such a dock + a spare battery (they knew the phone couldn't last a day). Maybe Meizu could make it an accessory, for like $15-20 extra?

So far the M9 sounds pretty good. The camera being worse than the iPhone 4's doesn't really bother me. I see a camera in a phone as being an extra, not like I'll be using the camera that much anyway.
