Meizu plans to expand into the US, opening a California office

In an unexpected move, Meizu is planning to expand into the United States, and will allegedly open an office in California. In a forum posting, Meizu CEO Jack Wong compares this move to the flying house seen in the Pixar movie Up.

Most likely, this will mean that Meizu products will be more readily available in international markets outside of China, and that the company will begin offering support to their international customers.

No further details are available, but you know where to read about them first.

Interesting move. It's going to be difficult for Meizu to sell their products internationally given their unfamiliar branding. If they want to be successful, then they really need to step up the quality of their gear so they don't risk giving a bad first impression.

This looks promising, not only for US citizen, but also for Europe, as Meizu is going to have international support center ( probably with much better english language skills ) . However, US is a capital of Apple and this move will definitely draw Apple's lawyers attention ,following by this they will have a lot of problems with all the patents Apple ever made

EDIT: looks like Samsung is responding to all apple bull*(@#% about patents and now going to suit them for infringing Samsung's wifi patents. So we are about to see another battle, which may end dramatically with a scenario of Samsung cutting Apple orders of the line and leaving Apple without most of the parts needed for tabs and phones :D

All the time they kept saying that, but now... They have some plans no one expected such a popularity of M9 after what happened with M8. But now, when they can barely catch up with demands of China customers, they began to think about aiming at middle class Americans's market and demands for high quality, but lower price phones.

If true it's great news, of course. But I really fear if the intention is to set up a sales office, then it'll only be a matter of time before there's that knock on the door from Apple's lawyers. With basically unlimited resources, Apple could do it simply to toy around with Meizu...and in the U.S. there's far less sympathy for a perceived "Chinese clone manufacturer" (especially these days) so forget about the whole David vs. Goliath thing. Could Meizu even summon the funds to enter into litigation on U.S. soil?

Anyway, time will tell. No doubt, though: JW has some real intestinal fortitude to take it straight to Apple's backyard.

yeah for sure, Meizu's already on Jobsy's hit list. Not sure how this will work...

However I do think meizu still has great potential.

Wong has got an eye for style. IMO many elements of Meizu's OS looks nicer than touch Wiz and even sense perhaps.

I would move to Russia and Europe. America is hard to crack in any industry. America is the land of copyright and labelled China , Russia as Canada as Pirate nations. America have industry lobby's that will use copyright to favour American industry over any others. Its no longer the land of the free. They are on a mission to lock down culture copyrighting everything as intellectual property is worth more than oil. A Chinese phone that is similar to the Apple phone will be put on lock down. Apple are buying up the rights to everything they can blocking competition. The market in Europe and Russia would be best to crack first as the people are more open minded to new ideas and different technology.

That's true. Brazil has just signed a trade agreement with China (http://www.itamaraty.gov.br/sala-de-...rade-agreement). There will be a new foxconn factory in Brazil and they will produce iPads. If Meizu opened a factory here in Brazil, they would have no competition, because the similars phones we have here are the iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S and the Motorola milestone 2 and they are all very expensive (~US$1000).
