Chinese mobile industry head calls Meizu M9 launch queues staged

Yesterday, Secretary General of the Chinese Telecom Industry Association, Li Yi wrote an entry in his Weibo microblog, calling on his "dear friends" in the media to stop reporting on the long lines of customers on the Meizu M9 launch day, claiming that the lines in China's major cities were actually artificially engineered by Meizu hiring people to queue. Furthermore, Li also claims that this sort of incident is part of how Meizu CEO Jack Wong does business and ends his message by applauding Jack's efforts, noting that this entire launch couldn't have cost more than 300,000 RMB (USD $45,000) and was fully worth it.

Meizu's Sales Director Hailiang Hua has commented on Li Yi's statement, calling them "ignorant and a joke" while explaining the situation with pre-orders and also that many fans left empty handed due to the popular demand.

Meizu CEO Jack Wong wrote on the company BBS that the "big mouth" Li Yi must be responsible for his words, and threatened with taking him to the courts.

Haha, very true. Whether or not those accusations are true, they certainly give the M9 more publicity. Personally, I couldn't care less on whether it was staged or not. I just want the damn phone!

Wow. This secretary really has balls. I can't see a official speaking such things, he must have some serious problems with Meizu.
If Jack really has done this, he has lost some points with me. I don't like to be fooled, but I have to admit that it would be a very cunning plan.

Wouldn't it be ironic if the secretary general Li Yi was the one being paid? It is major publicity for Meizu AGAIN, drawing attention to the huge crowds for the M9 and Meizu as a company. Not to mention it makes Jack Wong look like a cunning businessman
