Well J. Wong (CEO of Meizu) said the M9 should be released in October (2010 that is) at an estimated price of 2380 CNY with an 8GB microSD card. As we know the M9 will be an Android device and Meizu is building their own UI on top of it.
In other news: porting Android to M8 is going very well, check out the thread of the project here, and a video of the current progress:

Android a little bit laggy... But I just saw a video of android on an iPhone. It was a lot worse! :D
Also seen videos of Android running pretty good on iPhone. That means that it also could be good on Meizu :D

Thanked 1,049 Times in 391 PostsYes, they are also planning to open an office in HK which would be in charge of international market/sales... I'm not exactly sure what he means by that...

Thanked 2 Times in 2 PostsBtw, I wish they would focus on finishing FW 1.0 for M8 first, in stead of developing a new phone... I'm afraid that when the M9 is released there won't be any updates for the M8 any more.

Thanked 50 Times in 30 PostsDamn, when I read the headlines, I thought it was a video of the M9...Still, good work, guys! Why is everything upside-down? And what happens when Android 2.2 or 2.3 will be released, do you have to port the whole thing again or can you just upgrade 2.1 on the M8 (sorry, Android-noob here

I am no expert, but maybe it is easier to export stuff from Hong Kong than from China? Lower taxes, better connections, whatever? Also, HK has a lot of tourists and is known as a shopping paradise, so it seems to be the first step towards the international market.

Thanked 26 Times in 18 PostsHmmm.... Digital compas... wonder where that idea came from
. Anyway, haven't heard of that being included before, so I'm going to take a wild guess and say that - in a nutshell - it means GPS.
It seems a little expensive to me, but meh, we'll see what happens.

Thanked 200 Times in 145 PostsThe sources Meizu gave to the public are quite messy and are cleaned up part by part. So stuff like the G-sensor with wrong orientation might be one of the lesser problems for the people that now develop with it.
Once there is a clean and well structured build it should be possible to port most of the 2.1 patches to 2.2 so it will not be like starting from zero but you never know what surprises you get when you migrate to a new OS version...Meizu M8 SE - FW 0.9.9.18 (dao89 n450) Dualboot LBE A11 Android 2.2

while (A-)GPS seems to be a mainstream smartphone feature nowadays, it could still be a digital compass. You can use the compass within buildings where gps fails. On the other hand, digital compasses can easily get interfered with by non-shielded nearby electromagnetic sources, so they can be pretty much inaccurate.

Thanked 7 Times in 3 PostsAnd it is also not an unusual problem, if you look at xda-developers forums most android ports for Wm phones had that in the beginning, and it is usually not solved until the port matures and has to reach more testers..
Valid argument, but lets not lose hope. The m8 is mostly functional, and android is what it is, no more no less. I gotta wonder why you hang around here, you obviously dont like meizu, right?

Thanked 481 Times in 147 PostsI think the main reason of exporting to HongKong first is because of the free trade. China has more like an Communistic trade system. For example: Meizu's factory is located in a Free Trade Zone or High-Tech Industrial Development Zone (I'm not sure in which one of the two) in ZhuHai. By the way the distance from ZhuHai to HongKong is just about 100-150KM.

Yeah... A compass shows you which direction north is... GPS shows you where on the earth you are. If you combine those you get for example the application "Layar". That apps seems awesome... :O
