Jack Wong: Meizu M9 to come without headphones, storage

Meizu CEO Jack has written in the company BBS that the Meizu M9 will not cost much more than the current 8GB Meizu M8. To keep the price down, Jack has decided that the M9 won't come bundled with any handsfree or memory, but instead that these would be optional purchases. When he announced the Meizu M9 specs a while back, he also said that there would be no internal storage memory.

Rumors say that the device will be ready for the CTA (China Testing Alliance) in June, where it would take an additional of two months for approval.

    I think that is pointless.

Meizu seem to be going like apple now, trying to squeeze money out of you by charging for simple extras.

Well, the reasoning was that most probably don't use the headphones much anyway. People prefer to buy their own. The handsfree functionality is too buggy for me to use.

And memory cards... isn't it better for the user to decide how much is needed?

    This is a good thing.
First i wanted 8gb, but now i want 16gb, i have to buy a second M8 for that. With the M9 it's just a matter of a simple switch between micro-sdcards
And i don't even use the regular M8 headphones, they fall out of my ear pretty easily. I prefer in-ear earphones.
But i do want a 4-pin headphone jack, I do use the 'clicker' a lot!(I use cloned iphone earphones with a clicker and a mic for about $3) It's really nice on my bike when i listen to music, and it comes in handy when i get a call
Because of this, the M9's design should be more simple.
I think i am going to buy the M9, if it has gps, i don't care for 3g, don't want to spend money on internet via my mobile phone.

I think that is a very good decision.

I, too, think that is a good decision. I have never used any headset that came with a phone (except with a Nokia because it didn't have a 3.5mm jack > )
I also like the idea of a microSD-slot, so you can decide yourself how much storage you want. However, in the spec is stated that the M9 will have no storage at all, but surely it must have a certain amount of storage, mustn't it? Is it technically possible to release a phone without even 1MB of storage for the user to use?

    I dont really understand!!
You mean the M9 will not release with a 8gb or 16 gb inside???

We have to buy a memory card like 8gb or 16gb to add in M9?

Uhmm if that its strange?? I feel is better to have memory inside!!

I think this is a load of B.S

Fair enough about the headphones, I have never used the ones I got with thw m8 but storage, meizu are going backwards. If they are worried about people not having enough memory or wanting an upgrade after they buy an 8gb model, for example, then add a micro SD slot

But if they add both internal memory and a micro SD slot, it would mean increased bulk.

There are plenty of phones out there that have both without affecting bulk. A little extra fat doesn't bother me though so maybe that's how I would be different than others.

    It won't matter though. I have my m8 up for sale and will be getting;

this - HTC Desire first hands-on (updated with video) -- Engadget

    and

this Cowon V5 HD gets extensive UI video demo -- Engadget

    soon.

I may hold out for the windows 7series phone or even get a next gen zune hd instead of the cowon v5, I will wait and see. But I'll be sorry to see my m8 go though.

Jack, you can also remove the CPU, the screen, the camera, the SIM-card slot or whatsoever. Sorry, but I really wanted to say this. And who cares about 100RMB, 10 Euro or 15 Dollar?

That HTC phone is hot. When I first started saving money for my phone storage was the first thing I considered. I saw that it came in 8 and 16 Gb so I just saved for the one with the most storage since I could not add my own. Besides, your phone is like using your home pc we tend to accumulate stuff so best to be prepared.

Still, a MicroSd card is small. Why was it not considered.

    To keep this clear:

    No earphones:
    No internal memory:

Simply because an M9 with both internal memory and a micro SD slot IMO sound like a cool product to me and way to go.
Don't mind we won't get earphones. They usually break within short time.
(Just not tried those came with M8)

Either I can imagine how a Smartphone is able to run at all or install apps without some internal memory by default, but maybe it just me?
To me it's like if you buying the Beovision 10 flat panel (very very expensive) from the Danish B&O. Just in this case you also have to buy the remote itself separately too before you can operating it, because such a thing is not included here. Hello?!

it's a good move to make the earphone optional but no internal memory suck. i always love the idea to have 16 GB on board memory and 16 GB external memory making it 32 GB :D

Seriously? What brand are they? When I bought my iRiver five or six years ago, the earphones were unbranded Sennheiser, too, that's why I like them so much.

I bought my Sennheiser earphones in a Hyper-Multimedia Store. They have a very annoying crackling sound when I´m listening to music. Even with low volume. Ok, the Sennheiser fits better in my ear and are more comfortable to wear but I think sound quality is more important. I don´t know witch brand my Meizu earphones are. I think its Meizu factory-made brand. It are Meizu EP20
