Note: News is old and no longer valid. Please see our homepage for latest Meizu M8 news. (02-09-08)

According to forum posts by Meizu CEO Mr. Wong, the Meizu M8 will come in two versions. An entry-level version without camera and a standard version.

Preliminary pricing will be as follows:
  • M8 Entry Model: 1499 CNY for 4GB, 2199 CNY for 8GB
  • M8 Standard: 2380 CNY for 4GB, 3080 CNY for 8GB
The pricing in USD approximates to $195, $285, $310 and $400 respectively.

It is said that buyers of the Entry Model will later be able to separately buy a camera add-on for full functionality.

Finally, Meizu's miniOne is now confirmed to have a 720x480 16-bit 3.32-inch display.

That's pretty cheap. Do you know if it has WiFi capabilities? Is the entry level model any different to the standard one besides the camera feature?

So cheap! I will buy one when it is out, my old phone is dying badly

On the source website, it also says miniOne comes with bluetooth, and a 30-pin extension port, which is able to give TV OUT, LINE IN/OUT. If I didn't interprete this wrong, it comes with a 3-MP camera? The standard version? Cool!

Hmmm, it really needs wi-fi and 3G and has neither at the moment.

Planned release date is the end of 2007, so lets hope that between now and then the features improve.

(I still want one though).

We don't yet know if it will support Wi-Fi or not.

As far as 3G is concerned, I wouldn't be so sure that it is not included. Why is there a camera on the front if it's not 3G?

The Chineses use another protocol for their high speed connection via mobile phones. In Europe and America it is UMTS, in China it's their own TD-SCDMA. Both are not compatible. So the small camera will be rather useless in Europe and America.

And so it saves me some money since I don't need a camera function anyway. I've never used one and I usually carry a point and shoot in my car, and a dslr when I need it.

I dont think the phone will see US shores, atleast not with a carrier such as cingular/ verizon, which makes price v high for most ppl, I guess they can do well in China and maybe even in India if they push in the CDMA market.

My wishing list to add to the m8 in order to be the perfect mobile phone:
- WiFi
- TV OUT!!!!!!!!!!!
- [Mini|Micro|Traditional] SD Internal Slot
[ - UMTS: at the end of the day for me it is not that important... ]

and why not an additional internal or external accessory for GPS!!!

and then it would be really cooooooool

This is cool apple sucks and will probably be sued for patent infringement not to mention its a cheap knock off. As long as there is a Prada there will be some poor shmuck selling cheap ipod knockoffs to customers remember you pay for what you get. Look at all the iPod wanna be's where are they now? In 18 months the iphone will be nothing but a distant memory

It kinda depends on what you classify as an iPod wannabe, but judging by your post, you would probably have classified the Meizu M6 as a copy too.

And where is it now? Today, it is one of the most sought after flash players.

Yeah, and check out the background pictures featured on the M6 at the above link: Mac OS X desktop background pictures. I'd think there's a couple graphic artists on Earth that don't work at Apple. Could they even TRY to be original?
