Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsNo one can say at this point really even if there will be a model that will support 3G worldwide at this point, even less so if it will be actually sold in various locations.
This is one of the first indications it MIGHT that I've seen:
"...while the MiniOne M8 w ("w" for worldphone we presume) is said to go WCDMA/HSDPA/GSM/EDGE"
http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/18/m...8-incarnation/
But the same article makes the good point:
"...the specs have changed so dramatically since then that we'll just have to continue holding tight as this pup evolves."

i have read every single post in this thread and is very excited to get this phone. i am using a razr right now with t-mobile. I still havnt figured out if i can just but this phone, stick in my SIM card, and it will work? I don't use the t-mobile internet service or anything, just calling and sometimes texting.
And as to my thoughts of this phone compared to iPhone, i might not be as great in some areas but it wont suck just cuz its not apple. Plus big thing is i cant get iPhone bc i have t-mobile, and im NOT about to switch to cingular/at&t for a freakign expensive iPhone.
So some1 tell me if this phone will work with t-mobile. i got ppl in china that can send me one if i wanted

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsMost phones nowdays include the 1900mhz for the USA, now it depends upon where you're at if you would need 850mhz too or not, that's not all too common yet on "world phones", it is more than likely that it would NOT support the upcoming Tmo USA 3G though (which isn't launched yet but will run on 1700mhz), but if it supports 1900mhz (and 850mhz the same but on its own) then it will also support GPRS/EGPRS (EDGE) on the Tmo USA network.

yea thanks, im pretty sure i only need the 1900mhz. and could i get some more details on the new t-mobile 3g network? is it going to replace the 1900mhz? or just a new option to members?

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsIf you are refering to Tmo USA (unlike Tmo Germany & Europe) the 3G network will be on a 1700/2100 frequency, this is not "replacing" anything because first of all Tmo USA does not have a 3G network in place right now, nor will the at&t (Cingular) and Tmo USA 3G networks be compatible (YES UNLIKE the GPRS/EGPRS networks that are compatible between each other in the USA)
See this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Univers...cations_System
"Roll-out in the US has been limited by a lack of suitable spectrum until recently. The FCC auctioned spectrum in the 1750 and 2150 bands, and at least one winner, T-Mobile, has announced a roll-out of a national UMTS network on these frequencies starting in 2007"
"Cingular announced that their 3G network would be a 1900 MHz only implementation of UMTS and would launch by the end of that year as planned. However, since then they have chosen to deploy on 850 MHz and did not release any 1900 MHz-only devices (update: The Cingular 8525 is the first UMTS/HSDPA Pocket PC to be offered in the United States). "
Also it's important to keep this in mind:
"The specific frequency bands originally defined by the UMTS standard are 1885-2025 MHz for uplink and 2110-2200 MHz for downlink. In the US, the 1700 MHz band will be used instead of 1900 MHz - which is already in use - for the uplink by many UMTS operators. Additionally, UMTS is commonly run on 850 MHz and 1900 MHz (independently, for both the uplink and downlink) in some countries, notably in the US by Cingular Wireless."
So even though Europe does have 1900Mhz (for UMTS UPlink) it has nothing to do with the 1900Mhz band used by GSM /GPRS/EGPRS in North America.
So *IF* we are fortunate the Meizu M8 MiniOne might work on the Cingular (at&t) and Tmobile 1900Mhz for GSM Voice and GPRS/EGPRS, but that's it, most likely no 850 and more than likely no 3G that would work on at&t not Tmo.

whats so important about 3g anyway? would i really care about it? i just want to be able to get my hands on one of these devices, pop in my sim card, and have it work for couple or years.
SO, wut im understanding right now is that IF miniONE works with 1900mhz, i am set, its gonna work with t-mobile and cingular USA. I rly dont know/dont care about wtf 3g is right now? or should I?

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsEssentially 3G is needed to be able to get speeds that enables you to stream video and voice over IP such as Skype.
More about 3G you can find here to figure out if you need it or not:

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsWell yes and no.
Even though both Europe and the USA (we can't talk about "America" or "America's" in this context as its not even the same in all of North America, not to mention South) HAVE similair standards on the GSM 3G networks, due to the frquencies the European UMTS is *NOT* compatible with the North American ones, in fact as already pointed out the USA UMTS networks aren't even compatible with each other.
Now as for the Chinese having their own 3G network, yes this is as true as saying that the USA does so, because the USA also have EVDO 3G networks NOT compatbile with anything GSM, they don't even have simcards, they are somewhat like the old NMT 450/900 of Europe from back in the day in that sence (since that's the only thing that has some history in Europe without simcards).
Now it has yet to be announced if the Meizu M8 will have frequency bands that work ONLY in China or have the more international ones such that exsist in both Asia AND Europe (again North America not being included in that 3G nevertheless)
So the device could have 3G that would be:
1. For China's new 3G network ONLY
2. For Asia/Europe's 3G GSM network
3. For the USA 3G GSM networks (that's at&t/cingular and Tmo with different frequencies!)
OR any combination of the above, obviously the 3rd option is very unlikely, and if anything only the at&t/cingular one if anything for USA.
Either way with 3G already withIN GSM, its a djungle with having to cover like FIVE frequencies to have a true international 3G GSM phone, which is sad as its kind of picking apart the whole idea behind the GSM networks that they would work internationally!

just my 2 cents
if they where to run a Linux mobile os instead of windows they would solve a few problem
for being that linux is far more customizable allowing u to integrated feature fast and easy
2 if u could get xfce or berly interface to run on it u would have a whole new interface that would blow the iphone away plus with berly 3d cub effect it would be cool to see that running on a phone 4 virtual desktop that u could spin like a cube with your finger i do that on my curent touch screen on my desk top be nice to see on a phone
all that would give the phone its own look allow for better integration and plus third party apps suport and best of no need to pay for windows
if they did that i have one hell i have 10

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsIf they would use Linux I would definately avoid the thing at all cost. They can surely customize WinCE aswell, it's there to be customized. Third party apps support for WinCE is by far better. Can you get a good, commercial navigation system software for Linux? Free alternatives probably won't have access to the map data (since they cost), so they are useless. If they even exist.
And yes, I have been a Linux user for a few years.

O Rly?
While linux is cool, i dont think the phone would have enough graphics power to run beryl or 4 virtual desktops with cube effect. anyway this is not a laptop its a phone and mp3 player. maybe that open source linux can run on this phone, wuts it called? openmoko?

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsHm, the vids look cooler than expected, yet, I think I still prefer the bigger app support of WinCE. Same with Linux vs. WinXP, really. It isn't more stable than a good XP installation, though it doesn't fall far behind Windows... that is if you don't run Gentoo that is up to date but seriously breaks at least once every 2 months. It isn't too bad, but it doesn't stand out, and you can't get good programs for it.
But maybe Meizu can make it possible to run Linux and WinCE on it? Like dual boot?
