All good but I just wish they would release an international version and stop f**king around! its not rocket science. How is it that a load of cheap a*s clone manufacturers can make phones at a quarter of the price and half the build quality that work perfectly on all gsm networks yet Meizu cannot? pretty poor form if you ask me...

Many are made in black factories that avoid taxes and do not follow proper labor legislation.

Additionally, it is not uncommon for them to use recycled flash memory.

I totally agree with you. Just look at the upcoming C6 Iphone-Clone wich has Wifi, GPS all build in for maybe half of the price. Its kinda disappointing. For what reason we have a 667Mhz Cpu if theres nothing to use it for...even the Menu lags if you have more then 6 Icons. They really should focusing on a better FW.

Do you have a source for this information?

At the moment there are special offers on in the New stores that are opening specifically for the new Meizu products. These offers are just that, OFFERS. Very few non connected people will know that Meizu have told Meizu shop owners that they must have specific shops/space open specifically for the M8 phone. In these shops they can not sell other brand products. Normally in Meizu stores they sell other brands also. Meizu has said that if they want to be able to sell Meizu products; specifically the Meizu M8, then they need to open space/shops that only sell Meizu. Now that these shops are opening, they are having special offers to attract customers and earn money to pay for these shops.

I think you may have taken this the wrong way and jumped the gun about a price reduction. So I ask again; where did you hear about this? Do you have a proper English source?

This may be the case but it still does not explain why meizu cannot make a phone that works properly on gsm networks, it being the most popular standard for mobile phones in the world and the first and most basic thing to address when making a phone. Considering the fact they include support for the various frequencies, you would expect them to get these basics things right. Its not even just a clone thing, I have never known a phone that says it supports 900 MHz or 1800mhz frequencies or whatever to have the problems the M8 has with contacts, sms, random disconnections, loss of signal that have all been reported by international owners on the forums.

I have an M8. The only problem I have had is that once someone could not hear me so I restarted and that was it. I live in China though, so I haven't had to endure any of the other problems related to phone number extensions. Although my mms pictures are not downloading properly but I don't know if that is network or phone.

Is it just me or are we forgetting the price drop is for a phone that has eliminated the WIFI chip (not to mention the original price was announced when the phone had a few additonal hw features)

...and within 5 months of launching the official product have not been able to solve some very simple issues - maybe this is Meizus swan song...

A friend of my parents just had a meeting with the CEO of Meizu, asking to have a license to export the M8 outside China to Europe and US as a dealer. Mr. Wong said that there won't be an international version soon because they are scared that the M8 won't sell well outside China and also due to the regulations/license concerning WIFI. Mr. Wong even advised to not buy the M8 in the Meizu shops and sell them abroad. Because he can't guarntee that its compatible or will work or something like that.
He also said that the demand for the Beta version is high, that's why they are silently still producing that version along with the official one and selling it in the stores if a costumor ask for it.

I'm getting mine within 10 days , can't wait for it ^^

If they are still secretly producing the wifi version, does this price drop include dropping price in the wifi version too?

I don't know about that one. Right now I've asked the friend of my parents to get me the beta version. I'll see how much they charge him for that one and let you guys know if its the new or the old price.

thanks for the info but surely an international version would be very similar to a test version just maybe with slightly different firmware. That is a real shame, he could have just chosen a few small distributors and only supplied to order. At least that way international fans could have a device that works properly in their countries.
