Meizu CEO Jack yesterday released three photos taken with the 3 megapixel Meizu M8 camera, and explained that despite being pressured by the financial department, the final price will not be increased. The 8GB version that will be released first will go for 2580 RMB (approx. $380 USD). See the rest of the photos
In other news, Meizu has not yet received the Mobile Phone Sales License needed to sell phones in China. It is not sure whether or not they will be able to receive it even in October. Source
there is also an article on engadget saying that the first m8 might be out in august followed by the full on version in october. Meizu M8 finally launching in August? - Engadget check it out for urself.
Actually, probably on the Meizu BBS, but no one really knows if any of the stuff posted on there is even close to being accurate... So Meizu Me will be the first place that the M8 is internationally announced.
Time they decide to release their damned phone, Apple will sell the version 5 of the Iphone.
Full of real hope, I waited one whole year for their "coming soon release" reading and seeking the M8 news everywhere on the net like the perfect geek that I am and, finally, as I could not see anything coming, I bought at Apple's...
Finally it shows that if Chinese are the best to copy anything in the world like leeches, (with so poor quality most of time!), they can't manage when the deal is to create something by themselves.
And these people are touted to dominate the world in short while? Their number and their poverty are their sole power. Let them know ASAP because most of them are really getting too much proud at this time : how long have they been barking that they would release the best phone in the world???

ahhh delightful ignorance..
while I agree the M8 is taking way too long and meizu messed up royally in the progress meizus products are generally high quality
about your comment on the Chinese: yes they will dominate the world cause of their numbers, work spirit and strong development and dedication.
China will get big the same way japan did and the same way children do..first you watch, then you imitate, then you do it yourself. Right now China is moving from fase 2 to fase 3.
My wife and I have been living in HK for 3 years.
Although I work for a foreign educational program (not in english as you can guess while you read my words ) most of our friends work for international companies trading with chinese suppliers. We spend a lot of time speaking about Chinese economy and mostly about the big gap between what we really see here and what the western medias say about chinese power...
Go work to the mainland and you'll see that this country would be nothing without foreign influences and will be nothing as well if all the multinationals companies decide to invest somewhere else : they have no know-how, almost no patent... Look what they did for Olympic Games : most of the architect firms and building managers are not Chinese.
China is growing only because western countries are cynically exploiting the poorest of them. Once their working-class will reach a certain level of wealth what will come next??? They'll get too much expensive workers and the market will prospect more interesting places to invest, as some companies are starting to, delocalizing from Guangdong province to North Vietnam or India!!
If China really wants to grow they must radically change their cultural intellectual inertia and forget about taoism and confucianism (social theories transformed into philo-religions which Chinese emperors who used them to avoid any citizen revendication : keep in your line, don't attempt anything, we are already the most evoluated, the center of the world, you don't need anything, the social order is perfect, good sheep...), then they will have a real social and educational (have you ever visited a Chinese school?!) transformation which will allow them to, finally : CREATE
What we experience with the M8 Meizu player is quite significative of the market reality. They ve been proclaming around that their player would blow the other ones out : ancestral PRIDE.
Once they have sucked out all the iphone technology design and specs they've been hardly able to create anything more by themselves : LACK OF INITIATIVE.
Anyway, I really hope that M8 will see the day light and, given my location (Meizu factory is in Zhuhai, just a few km from HK), I'll be one of the first geeks to test it!
Hello to all the M8 folks waiting for its release...and waiting...and waiting...
Let's look at a couple of things that are wrong with the M8.
So far, it doesn't really exist. In fact, you can't tell beyond a doubt if that pictures posted as being from the M8 camera are actually from the M8. It could be from a Sony digital camera for all we know. I'm not convinced.
Second, I have yet to see an actual fully-functional model of anything resembling the mock-up images of the M8. I did see the video of an M8 demoed on a circuit board the size of an old Dell Dimension XPS, but I really don't think it's very portable in that configuration.
Third...and this is the big one folks, even if the M8 came out today with all the bells and whistles Meizu claims it will have, it will still be obsolete compared to the Apple iPhone 3G. That's the deal breaker for me. Not to mention the price is still higher than that of the Apple iPhone 3G.
I'm sorry for being so blunt, but if you are waiting for the M8 to come out because it will be so cool, I would suggest you simply go out and purchase an first generation Apple iPhone. At least that way you will know what you will be getting with the M8 when and if it ever comes out!
Obsolete? Please tell me why it would be obsolete. You are a fool for saying that, or you're just a fanboy. It actually has some features that make it BETTER than the iPhone 3G.
1. Unlocked (iPhone 3G requires a 2 year contract)
2. 720x480 LCD (iPhone 3G is 320x480)
3. I don't know what material the M8 will be made of, but the iPhone 3G has developed cracks. Apple will probably fix this problem (they will fix the design, just placing it won't do anything) sooner or later but it is still an inconvenience to use your time and money (gas) to go to the Apple store and get a new one. Or you could just send it in, which will probably be cheaper as shipping is free for the first 180 days of your warranty from Apple. Otherwise it is $30.
4. Removable battery (Can upgrade the battery to a higher capacity battery, 3rd party probably)
5. Ridiculous repair prices (iPhone 3G). The Meizu M6 has very cheap repairs, even though it has to go to China, you are saving a lot of money. iPhone 3G - $199 flat rate for the 8GB model, $299 for the 16GB model.
Ok kids...don't get your panties in a bundle. You talk about the M8 as if you can go to T-Mobile and buy one. The fact is, it doesn't exist in any fully-functional unit. Yes...I looked at the "spec sheet", but that means nothing if you can't back it up with a fully-functional unit to match it. For example (this is for the slow ones out there), I can say my grandma can run 100M in 5 seconds. No one can deny that if she never runs it. See my point? Again, there is no FULLY-FUNCTIONAL M8 unit out there that does everything that Meizu claims it does. Heck, there isn't a fully-functional M8 that even does half of what Meizu claims it can do. And let's face it folks, if it did, Meizu would be the first ones out there screaming how wonderful their product is. I have yet to see it. I'll bet you have yet to see it. Until that point, it's vapor-ware and there is no denying it unless you own one and if you do, put a nice little video up on YouTube on how wonderful it is.
Holy cow! And you call me a "fanboy". -Double Yikes!
Hey don't get me wrong.
U know its also getting on my nervs that there is no full functional prototyp (but aut least, there are pics of and I pretzty shure that they will be out in the next days) but never the less your postigh was completely sens-free:
"even if the M8 came out today with all the bells and whistles Meizu claims it will have, it will still be obsolete compared to the Apple iPhone 3G."
But you see, if the m8 comes out today with all its "bells and whistles" it will be hundred time less "obsolete" than your loved IPhone.
The difference between us is that I look for alternatives, and I think the M8 is a really good one.
If the M8 isn't good enough, I'll buy a xperia or one of the thousand other phones that beat the IPhone in every category...
But I see, apple told you the IPhone is the best, so why should they lie?
Go buy your IPhone and believe you own the best phone ever (;
