Wink Is it true?

Is it true that the "m" in m8 doesn't stand for meizu, but instead stands for missing? Could it be true?

Sad to say everything actually costs cheaper comparing to M8 release price except omnia which was slightly expensive.

You are right! The M8 really isn't that good of a deal when you think about it. It's more expensive than the other comparable phones with similar features out there already. It's also really late to the game. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out, but if I had to guess, the M8 will be nothing more than a road bump in the touch-screen, smartphone arena (better than most, not as good as some). I think Apple has created a solid base with the App Store and it's SDK that will be hard to beat at this point. It's a shame, because competition is always good for the market. If Meizu had been able to produce the M8 a little quicker and get it to market sooner, it would have been good for the entire portable phone industry. It's just too little, too late in my opinion. Oh well...such is life. Great things don't always equate to success. Look at Sony's BetaMax tapes - higher quality, better features, but it got to the market almost a year after VHS and we all know how that worked out.

Please list some affordable competition to the M8. And with some good features like the ones below.

The M8 could actually be better than the iPhone, while being cheaper.

720x480 LCD
USB OTG
Supports LOTS of formats
Removable battery
Drag N Drop, don't have to use bloated iTunes
8GB in capacity

"the M8 will be nothing more than a road bump in the touch-screen, smartphone arena"

And you know this how? Please look at the specs above.

Great, all you have are specs? Each day the M8 isn't released, regardless of what Meizu posts the specs as being, will impact the overall impact it has in the market as other devices gain more market share. That's not being silly or short-sighted, that's basic economics and marketing. If the M8 doesn't come out until Dec 2008, or worse yet, sometime in 2009, most people who are going to purchase a touch-screen phone will most likely have purchased something else. Since Meizu hasn't released any specifics regarding carriers, not to mention countries, that will offer the M8 once it does come out, the M8 really becomes less and less of a factor. Mr. Unregistered is right. It's really a shame you don't (or refuse to) see it for what it is.

The Meizu will be unlocked and run on GSM networks such as AT&T and T-Mobile in the US. Tell me of some phones (other than the iPhone) that have these specs for a reasonable price. Good luck finding one. It's really a shame that you don't know what it is. I know what it is, I've been following it ever since it was announced.

The iPhone actually costs around at least $1400 because of the darn contract you have to sign, and people are actually dumb enough to sign them, because we all know how Apple is, they purposely remove some important features, then implement it in the next in half a year, claim they "invented" it, and make the last version obsolete. So if you think of it, the iPhone is a ripoff. Why the heck didn't you make 3G in the first version? They could...

Plus the click wheel is overated. "It's new technology" Really? Seriously, I've been using before it came out. It's called a touch pad. They just made it into a PMP.

In the US, at $70/month minimum plan, $199 for phone, $36 activation fee would bring you to $1915 for 2 years of service for the cheapest plan. That's why I use T-Mobile, AT&T has ridiculous prices.

I'm on a Rogers pay-as-you go plan, costs me $100 a year
But seriously, I don't talk too much, and it's only one cent per minute on weekends and evenings. (weekend 8pm Friday to 8am Monday, evening 8pm to 8am). Otherwise, it's 39 cents/min.

The only reason people buy iPhones is to be "Normal", and because it's made by Apple, and it looks cool. Sadly, that's mostly what all Americans care for, as you can see how successful Apple is.

Sadly, my 2006-era Sony Ericsson K310c has more features and the interface "flows". It's a joke really, the iPhone can't even take video, not sure if it's still true now, but anyways, on a 2006 phone, there is one. The only thing my phone is lacking is a good high-res screen and more than 11MB of memory.

I have a question.

I live in Canada and am with Fido. When this phone comes out and is unlocked, I can easily use it on the fido GSM network?

I want to use internet on it, so all I need to do is add unlimited internet access to my existing fido plan and all should be good?

Is it possible to add an unlimited internet plan ($7/month at fido) to my phone, and then buy an unlocked iphone, and use internet on the iphone? Because I see the cheapest iphone plan is $60/month, which is way more than adding the $7 to my existing plan to use internet with the iphone.

does an iphone have to be on a iphone plan?

Thanks guys.

Post Breaking News!!!!!!

Meizu CEO Jack announced today in front of a crowd that the M8 will be eventually released. He is quoted as saying, "We are working very hard to reverse engineer the iPhone as quickly as possible." Other sources close to Meizu say that currently the company has sent a group of engineers to the USA to test several different M8 pre-production units, but as of yet, Meizu is still waiting for them to call back with an update. As more information is made available to the public, you can bet it will be posted on meizume.com first, the official website for those desperately hoping for the M8!

This specific part doesn't make any sense. Meizu are not reverse-engineering anything, they are creating a new product from scratch. And I don't think JW would say something lame like that. IMO it's either a translation error, or just bullsh*t.

Would you be so kind as to post the source?
