If you are in need of a contract +dataplan anyway -> than you can finally compare iPhone+contract to m8+contract :D
In which the iPhone will be cheaper.
    US$ 70 per month is reasonable? which is US$ 1260 in 18 month, US$ 1680 in 24.
This plus 2830 youen will give the comparable cost against this US$ 199. device:

New iPhone: $199 (for 8GB of storage), plus $70 per month for a basic voice plan (presumably the same 450 minutes) and unlimited data. Two-year total: $1,879.

Sorry, but I don't really understand your post DaremoS.

Looking aside of contracts the iPhone will be cheaper than the m8. As for the price of the contract itself it will depend on the carrier in your specific country. For example cheapest contract US $70 versus Netherlands 30 euro's ($45 roughly). So yeah, AT&T kinda sucks.

I know enough people with a phonebill that can reach 70 dollars, every person has it's own usage and costs.

    ok then... do this calculation for me US$ 45 x 18 = US$ 810 or x 24 = US$ 1.080 plus the price of M8 = 2830 youen?... to do a fair comparison

I'm sure this is not a bargain

$ 1491 will be the price for the same contract with an m8
$ 1279 will be the price for the same contract with the iPhone

Again I don't really understand what you are asking of me, you could predict that the iPhone would be cheaper with the current prices in combination with a contract?

Whether this is a bargain is, again, dependable of how much money you spend calling on average.

$ 1491 will be the price for the same contract with an m8 or with a cheap prepaid card
$ 1279 will be the price for the same contract with the iPhone
I just try to show to this community that M8 won't be a bargain despite of the kind of way of payment... but more important is that this reduction of price by Apple, in combination with the marketing / distribution campaign, is a serious problem for M8 project.

We are fans of devices from China / Korea due to their good relation cost / benefits... on the other hand I personally hate Apple products due to their disgusting habits concerning rights / licences and contracts...

Unfortunately this time they have done a very hard to fight movement that surely will let them take the whole market that was intended by M8... which means that if some day I will have a PMP with cell phone it surely will have to be an iPhone.

Finally... an iPhone is not the worse device of this world no matter who manufacture it.

The iPhone's cheapest plan is $70/month, which doesn't include texts. Plus, you HAVE to use AT&T. You can't use a different carrier, unless you want to pay the early $175 termination fee, plus the first $70. Like I have said before, a lot of people don't want to get locked into a 2 year contract with the same carrier. But those who don't mind the contract, then the price isn't that bad. I don't spend $70 a month, but I'm sure some do. If I did spend that much, I certainly wouldn't be using AT&T.

This story of At&T is only for USA and some company where there is AT&T... that is past... from July 11th the campaign in other countries will have to be with local companies.

In my country 2 companies (Claro and Movistar) have opened subscriptions for the new iPhone 3G, announced for July, with enormous success. I am sure that the competences between this two companies will result in better offers in contracts. Like the one of free devices with certain contracts in Spain and UK look here

This is really the most dangerous effect for the future of market of cell phones, as Meizu M8 for instance, but also for top products of Nokia, Sony Eriksson, etc. which are really expensive. Apple has lowered the price of a product over-marketed, over-reviewed and over-acclaimed in the last year and together have opened the door for new distribution all over the world.

Do you really think that mass consumers will be as selective as we are with our MP4 / PMP?

    nah

You're saying it backwards; AT&T's cheapest plan for the iPhone is 70 dollars. Pricing in Europe is completely different, 45 dollars for calling/sms/browsing. Further specs still unknown though, T-Mobile gives more news on the 3rd of July.

    Question Release Dates?

This new GUI looks great, a much needed change. However, when is this going to be launched? I know that it's now 6 months or so behind, but, it would be great to see and get the final product of all these delays and improvements.

meizu better up the spec on this phone. like upgrade the capacity to 16 and 32 gb, making it compatible with itunes since most people use itunes as it manages music better than windows media player, and more options. there are many competitions out there like iphone 3g, samsung i900 omnia, lg prada, htc diamond, htc touch, ec.... the gui seems really good not but everything else is pretty much outdated byt the time it comes out.

Why would you want to make it compatible with iTunes? iTunes is crap. iTunes takes a long time to load even on a quad core. Not kidding. The more competition, the better. That means that Meizu MIGHT lower their price or they could improve it somehow. That's why competition is good.

Still it seems to have a added value to some people, that's why it wouldn't hurt to make it compatible (if it were possible to begin with).

iTunes is a okay program in my mind, runs great on my *cough* dual-core. On the other hand I never used things like Winamp before but I'm satisfied by how I can sort my music.

I don't know how they wish to cut off more of the price as it is pretty low for a off-contract phone. The specs should be higher though (gui problems right now), but is paired with even more delay it seems. So competition won't help very much right now with no fixed point as release date anyway.

Well, for most Meizu fans (me included), the fact that their devices do not need iTunes is one of their great winning points.

I guess iTunes compatibility as a second option wouldn't harm as a sales/marketing point, but I'm not sure if it would be possible or even legal. I know that for example there's a plugin for Amarok to synchronize with iPods, but to make M8 iTunes compatible would be the other way around. Also, Apple keeps breaking compatibility with Amarok, by changing the specs and forcing users to update, so maintaining iTunes compatibility would be an headache.

IMO, Meizu would do better to invest in an open interface and get support from a good open-source music library manager.
