Several hours earlier, Meizu fans caused an uprising on the Meizu BBS after an unidentified insider source revealed that the Meizu miniOne M8 project was put on hold for at least three months. The chaos was quickly contaminated with users banned and offensive material deleted.
The reason given for the hold was that Meizu was that quickly loosing market share on the domestic Chinese market, and needed to focus on releasing another MP3 player, Meizu M7, before their mobile phone debut. The Meizu M8 has caused Meizu to fall behind other Chinese brands now adopting large touch sensitive screens, multiple codec on-the-go video decoding, and recently also TV-Out to their MP3 players.
More details will be posted as they become available.
shame, shame, shame...If they release the M8 and then the new mp3 player, they'll get a new market and have their current, mp3-only market.
But as we can see they decided to go the other way (mp3-only first)...too bad
EDIT: well I'm glad it's a joke, you had me

First: we all should calm down and wait for an official statement - it is the 1st April .
Second: even if they focus on the M7 - why not? As far a I understood, the M8 and M7 uses in principle almost the same software and hardware. So even if they release the M7 earlier, the software, kernel, etc. has to be developed.
Third: The Samsung chips will not be available until August - so why not put the focus on the M7 first? Or will they equip the M7 with the same processor as the M8? As far as I remember, the M7 has a smaller screen and resolution - so the slower samsung will be used.
Release the M7 in June/July, make first experiences, update it, learn, and make a perfect M8 for August.
What impact this will have depends on if are any similar phones on the Chinese market (other than the iPhone). I don't know if there are any others. If it's still unique as well as cheaper and better than the iPhone when it's released it can be successful.
I'm not in a hurry to buy a new phone but it's a shame for people who are waiting for it. It says it's been delayed about 3 months, what date was it expected before now?
Remember it is April 1st today, there's a chance it might not be true.
If this is true, this would be bad, because i cant wait any longer. Because I already had an iphone in my fingers and it works so smoooooth. And i am dying to see the M8, but 3 months is to long.
It is April 1st. But I think this is good for Meizu as a whole. Releasing a half baked product (I'm looking at you, M6) is not good, and patching stuff while operational is not good practice. Just ask Microsoft.
I'd rather that they have their core prouducts (MP3 players) working well than them having half baked stuff everywhere. Please fix the stuttering, make it easier to get Album Art in the player, make it easy for the player to work in MTP mode, etc. etc.
Yeah right, they're announcing that M8 will support MSN and QQ just to hold the development 2 days later, and start developing something that is a drawing - all we got about the M7 is a photoshop drawing, compared to M8's (more or less) working motherboards, GUI (another company is working on it), various software and hardware concept designs, dummies and mainboards.
And there's no given quote from J. Wong (or anybody, even not from inside Meizu), just "Meizu BBS".
@citizenklaw - yep, that's true, they should fix stuttering and some other problems, but don't you see that everything they're doing now with the M8 is exactly what you're talking about - look, M8 could be released few months ago, but it wasn't - and I can say that everything, from software to hardware keeps changing and getting better and better. However, this method can't be abused, as nothing is perfect - no matter how many months/years Meizu will spend polishing their product to its best, it will have the good things and will have the bad things. Meizu isn't God, thay can't make things 100% good for all uses and all people - one will think it's great and has everything he or she needs, one will think it's just good for it's price, and one will find it crappy. That's just life.
soo...how long is this going to on before we get a real answer as to if this is a april fool stint or the real deal...because if the thing about m7 coming out b4 m8 is true then I'm all for it... I like my mp3 player to be just what it is...an mp3 player...not a freakin phone but that's just my opinion...
