Internet has an answer for every question out there, not likely to be always the answer you're looking for.

I agree with you, I do hope they reconsider using Linux (or at least someone hacking it so that it runs on Linux like they did iPod:D). Linux runs much more smoother than windows, and people can customize it more freely with Linux

i don't think they do that (calling anything that looks remotely close to an apple product a clone) because they think apple is necessarily the best. it's just that apple has a knack for releasing products that are distinctive, in terms of looks or even some functions such that people sort of equate this look or function with apple.

there's a term for this in advertising, but i can't recall it right now. anyhow, this is about the same thing that happened with colgate (in the philippines, as least, almost everyone refers to toothpaste as colgate) and coke (instead of cola). :D

as for the linux os, guys, you have to understand that not everyone can handle linux. (i'm one of those people) perhaps, to keep everyone happy, meizu can release 2 versions of the m8, one windows and one linux.

I think the term you are looking for is BRANDING.
like calling vaccum cleaners "hoovers", and correction fluid "liquid paper"

If Meizu were to cheap to pay for MP3 license, I cant see them paying for M$ windows CE type license, Hopefully they will go linux, there plenty of info and SDK for it and the chinese are know for creating their own alternatives to those closed controlling standards of USA corporations, they have their own version of DVD and HDVD etc. also no one want the expensive, slow, bloated windows OS on their portable device, even symbian would be a better alternative.

Personally I have no problems with Windows Mobile/CE etc. I do however hope they ensure it will work on 3G and will have a mini-micro SD slot.

It's not the looks that makes Apple iPhone so special, it's the OS. And that you can't copy.
Check out the keynote and you'll understand

hmm...is this for real? ...can anyone verify this?

well...it really does look like the iphone...but hey if they can pull this off like what they did with the M6...i'd certainly buy one...prolly won't use it as a phone though...would just prolly use it as a pmp.

...there's an idea...why not just dump the phone feature...just go with the whole pmp? :D

I'd rather have a phone integrated. If I had both devices together, I could carry less crap in my pocket. As long as it is decent quality and the cost isn't outrageous, I say go with the phone as well.

It does look like an ipod clone, but I consider that a good thing. The more alternatives, the cheaper things will get.

The only thing I strongly dislike is the use of Windows CE. Like FirePower said, there are plenty of free alternatives out there!

@glacier - a Linux DAP does not mean that you'll have to type commands into a shell... It would look and work similar to Windows CE, but without certain restrictions and way more possibilities for user modifications since its open source.

Maybe someone can help me out with understanding a little more about 3G phones. I noticed that wireless capability isn't listed in the specs for the Meizu phone. But if this phone really is a 3G phone would you need wireless capability because I thought that most cel phone networks incorporate high-speed internet access? Please excuse my ignorance of this subject.

i'd still prefer my player and phone not integrated...the main problem with that is the battery life...although if the battery is replaceable it'd be more tempting...but is this confirmed? is this for real?

    In response to doogie749's question.

I'm not sure if I am right about this. I think 3G provides the same internet access but you have to pay for data transfer and such. Like paying for internet service on your normal cell phone.

If I am right, wifi will let you get free internet access if you are near an access point. If so, I think they should integrate wifi.

    Really looking forward to this!

Actually, surfing on the internet via a mobile phone is achieved with the GMS or GPRS protocols (GSM is 2G and GPRS is 2.5G).

3G (= UMTS) is mainly used for video applications : videoconference, watching TV, video on demand, etc.

I also think integrating WiFi in the M8 would be the best possible solution, but the main problem would be that it would certainly decrease battery life significantly...

Well, I guess we will just have to wait for Meizu to find the answer.
    They haven't disappointed me yet

Meh, if it makes it big I see potential for trouble. To Meizu: COME OUT WITH AN ORIGINAL DESIGN, for God's sake! M6 was on the right track at least, and you even removed the shiny chrome back on the M3! WHY DO YOU HAVE TO DRIVE YOUR COMPANY INTO THE GROUND!?

Still, if it's not expensive, it's light, small, and it's reliable, I might go for one
    I'm out
