Meizu M8 at the Patent Office

On the 16th of this month, patent information of the Meizu M8 was made publicly available by SIPO (State Intellectual Property Office of the P.R.C). The images contained on SIPO's page seem to be of one of the earlier M8 prototypes.
Apart from the patent page showing that the miniOne M8 patent was submitted on the 7th of February 2007, not other information is available.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI don't think these patents still count. It really wouldn't make any sense at all.
Back in december they said the buttons were still under patenting....-> almost an entire year to patent something? Even the Chinese can't be that slow.
The drawings are devoid of colour, but I still think the "latest" renders don't really look like these drawings anymore. So......ZTE Blade

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsRofl still really really weard. The fact they released it must mean "patent accepted" right? Why the hell change it.....
Or if they were planning to change it, why the hell patent the early model?
I'll never understand Meizu's reasoning....

well....it does seem rather strange. Mr Wong did say that the patent was pending so official pictures could not be released, so if this was the case surely they would release some proper photos if this was the patent. However......this design does look like the old design from a long time ago, yet it could also be the new design as it has what looks like 3 buttons on the front. However there is also a camera on the front and wasn't the front camera supposed to be removed from the first models to be released? and only included on later 3g models? It is all very confusing. My gut feeling is that this is an old patent and has only now become available and Meizu filed a new one for the latest design of the M8. I could be wrong though. However I also suspect with this type of device a number of other patents would be filed at the same time, for other technologies used in the phone, so where are they?

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI hope the build quality will be good. The screen has to be scratch-resistant, the casing as well (iTouch!), buttons will be the weakest part of the design if they are used often, it has to be able to survive little drops off the table for example, software will have to be stable, these patents must somehow save them from Apple's lawyer attack squat......many things that could make or break the m8.
Let's hope they can produce something good in the "ever-far-too-long" span of time Meizu has used.

Thanked 1 Time in 1 PostI don't think that this is the final design. It wouldn't make sense, since we have already seen pictures of it long ago, and it would contradict Mr. Wong's words in that the final design can't be shown yet because it is under patent registration.
I agree with sere83.. this is probably just an old patent that has now become available.
PS: and I hope that I am right, because I hate this design... too Ipodish for me

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts1 year has passed now since the first time we heard about the m8.....
For some reason I noticed that my initial optimism about this product has changed to dry sarcasm from time to time in the last....6 months. A year has passed, but we still have no release date whatsoever.
At least last year we were given a period in which the release would happen, now we're reduced to a date for a showoff. From a real life model last year we're all back to renders again that aren't even accurate anymore. Even after an entire year Meizu is still busy patenting their stuff. From that perspective our current information is actually degrading, half of the information we were given by Meizu isn't even correct anymore.Last edited by DusL; 01-23-2008 at 04:15 PM.
