Although I am not 100% sure I believe that windows mobile aplications will almost certainly not work on windows ce but only on windows mobile itself. Infact I think that the application you are trying to run must be made for that specific version of windows ce. I know people over at the cowon forum have been having problems running certain applications on their Q5's (windows ce 5.0 based) as the apps were made for the wrong version of windows ce (I believe their are is more than 1 version eg. standard, professional etc). Wikipedia has a bit about it:
Pocket PC and Windows Mobile is a Microsoft-defined custom platform for general PDA use, and consists of a Microsoft-defined set of minimum profiles (Professional Edition, Premium Edition) of software and hardware that is supported. The rules for manufacturing a Pocket PC device are stricter than those for producing a custom Windows CE-based platform. The defining characteristics of the Pocket PC are the digitizer as the primary Human Interface Device and its extremely portable size.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI don't know about the amount of third party applications for WinCE in comparison with windows mobile, but eventual incompatibility would be kinda bad wouldn't it? Because i've seen alot more winmobile devices around than wince.
Unless people would have to start writing apps by themselves for the custom-version wince from the m8. That kinda sucks in my opinion.iPhone 3G 16 GB

yeah i'm pretty sure there are thousands more 3rd party applications for windows mobile than there are for Windows Ce. Incompatability is definitely not good as it immeadiatly renders the majority of windows os based apps (mostly windows mobile) unusable. The truth of it is that there will always be more apps for a device like the iphone because millions of people own it and so many people have developed software for jail broken models and will soon start developing apps officially, once the sdk is released.
I think 3rd party app compatibility for the m8 is a bit of a grey area at the moment as no one is really sure about what will work or whether they will release the sdk or what. It must also be remembered that there are not even very many Windows CE6.0 based devices around as it is relatively new, so this will certainly mean less apps as the whole kernal was redesigned for the latest version.
Some of the customisation avilable on jail broken iphones is amazing, hopefully the devoloper community will get behind the M8 and start making some nice apps for it too. Would be really nice to see fully functional flash and java support as well as some console emulators. If it has not been put in the questions already we should ask the people attending cebit to ask about 3rd party apps and the sdk.
In many ways I hope that the rumours are true and microsoft has had a direct involvement with the M8 as it may lead to more 3rd party app support. I also wonder how 3rd party apps will work as the interface will be totally customised, will they have to revert back to a standard windows menu to run? I hope not, I don't want to have to look at the standard windows Ce menu ever! This has been one of the big complaints about the Cowon Q5, the fact that it basically runs 2 UI's, a cowon customised one on top of the standard win ce 5.0 menu's. But to use things like the web browser and other apps you must revert back to the standard windows menu which is confusing but also unecessarily convoluted.Last edited by sere83; 02-25-2008 at 12:56 AM.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI think (!) that with my navigation system, which is based on CE, you can install something like a SDK or so, which adds support for those Windows Mobile programs. Can someone confirm this?

Meizu sucks
i've been waiting for this Meizu M8 phone for over a year after i heard about it. fist it was stated that it would come out in december of 2007 then it said there were going to show a fully working model of it at CeBIT all they did was make another dummy that shows certain modes and all the videos you see of it, it sucks. it lags when it shouldn
t and most of it doesn't work at all. it seems that MEizu is just fullo of bullshit and false promises. i say that everyone looking at the phone should just stop and buy an iphone. if u want to keep on waiting go ahead but it'll probably take a year or two more just to complete. by then apple would of already made a 3G phone that has more hard drive space as well as more components built in.Last edited by Unregistered; 03-04-2008 at 10:49 PM.
