With International CES 2008 in Las Vegas approaching swiftly here's a friendly reminder that Meizu will attend the exhibition and will be found at booth 65012, Las Vegas Hilton.
Meizu CEO Jack Wong at CES?
Jack, who is very active on the official Meizu BBS did not login for several days, which caused Chinese fans to speculate that he was traveling to Las Vegas for CES.
No Working Meizu miniOne M8 at CES 2008
Several weeks ago a false rumor on the internet spread about Meizu brining a working prototype of the M8 to CES 2008. However, this rumor was quickly debunked by CEO Jack Wong.
Just one hour ago, Jack once again confirmed that no working prototype of the M8 will be shown at CES 2008, he then apologized to fans and said Meizu will show the world the miniOne M8 at CeBIT (March 4-9, Hannover, Germany) instead.
Hm, CeBIT is still 8 weeks ahead. I somehow doubt that they are really "finetuning" the M8 now. If they did, they would present a prototype now.
The other brands are not sleeping meanwhile ..
He said it in a way along the lines of: There were unforeseen technical problems, but now we've mastered the complexity of the M8 and will have it ready for CeBIT. (My translation)
I expect it will be a prototype at the CeBIT, with a release a few months later. Unlikely that it is released right after with our current situation now.
I am somehow disappointed about this, it will be 14+ months of waiting for this thing by then.
Humm.. personally, I think we cannot know whether a working prototype already exists and they are currently fine-tuning it or not.
To me, it was clear that Meizu was not going to present M8 at CES from the moment J.Wong said that it was under patents registration. Many photos of what it could look like have been leaked over the past year, but as M8 development approaches completion, it's normal that Meizu becomes more careful and only shows the real thing when it is legally registered.
I'm bloated with the hot air that is the Meizu M8. By the time they release this thing there will be a bunch of other iPhone "inspired" smart phones out there that will render this thing one of many at best, or obsolete at worst. The minute apple dropped the price of the iPhone, Meizu's M8 took a huge blow.
The one thing that puts the iPhone ahead of the pack (aside from design) is Safari. If meizu hopes to capture any significant attention with the M8 they will need to have a full version of either IE, Opera or even Safari (i.e. ARCHOS 605 WiFi). I'm hoping that this is the case and that this thing isn't just hot air.
We overtime to solve the main problem is that 6400 inside the 2D acceleration not have the anticipated effect in 720 * 480 display 24bit colours (2 times data than iphone of 480 * 320 in the same circumstances ) to deal with touch roller speed is not sufficient(for example Address Book, Media Library), of course, in 16bit colours which is basically the same speed as iphone, 16bit color and 24bit color difference is quite large in the gradual picture to see , such as m6 and v9 (16bit colors) , we also continue to try to resolve this issue.
J.Wong said(Translation not so well :P )
I think the main problem is that resolution may be too high, resulting in the display effect is not achieve the expected.
no suprises here really, it was never likely to happen to be fair. With a debut at Cebit this pretty much confirms everyones worst fears......we will not be seeing the M8 till around may/june possibly even later. Very dissapointing to be fair. 5/6 monthes in tech is a very very long time. By the time this comes to market there is likely to be quite a few devices that surpass the M8. If devices such as the rumoured Nokia N99 (Nokia N99 = Cell Phone + PDA + UMPC) become a reality i'm affraid that the M8 will be out of date before it's release. Nevertheless this does not mean they won't have success in China but I don't think it will sell well in the west as there will be a new iphone and many new products from the big manafacturers like nokia and sony ericsson which will outspec and out perform the M8. I still would like to get an M8 but if something comes along in the meantime to surpass it I cannot gaurantee I won't get something else. It was a terrible miscalculation on behalf of the company IMO particularly as they are trying to gain popularity in the western market.
@gavien: That's a really weard reason they're giving there. Problems because of the high resolution? As long as the GUI is build correctly i can't really see what kind of problems one can expect. Also I thought the GUI was supposed to be finalised 4 months ago??

yeah why is it that engadget are so against the M8? they are always so critical and biased when the present news about it. They always make constant iclone knockoff jibes and vapourware cracks. Why would they not support what will hopefully be a useful and well designed device? Obviously cosmetically it looks simliar to the iphone but specwise and component wise it is very different. I suppose they have always been very pro apple at engadget.
eh, that's it... I am getting something else in the meantime the M8 shows up. I am not saying I am **** off but I am at least **** :D (please insert your favorite 4 letter words). But no harsh feelings, really. I can start searching for the "second best" phone. It's not going to be iPhone for sure - don't know what all these people see in it... It has to be either windows mobile (has tons of apps) or something hackable, running on Linux . (yeah, I know, I know, I am looking for a toy, not a phone, but what the heck... I am a guy and a geek)
