It has to be either windows mobile (has tons of apps) or something hackable, running on Linux . (yeah, I know, I know, I am looking for a toy, not a phone, but what the heck... That's it!
We should open a 2nd best phone topic to please the people who want a alternative phone (me:D) that is just as good as the atm non-existent M8. Can't be that hard to match it with specs right? only the price

unfortunatly I am aware of no phone that can match the M8's spec. No phone I know of has USB OTG. No phone I know of supports XVID either. And I know of very few good phones (not cheap chinese c**p) that have a 3.4 inch+ touch screen (apart from obviously the iphone and a couple of others) there is also no phone on the market I am aware of with 16gb of flash onboard either. There is also no phone that can match the price of the M8 with a simliar spec. Very few phone shave Tv out to (I can only think of a few htc models and high end nokia models) The only thing I think can come close to the M8 spec is the HTC Advantage HTC Advantage X7500 - Full phone specifications. And it is ridiculously priced and still gets outspecd buy the M8 in a number of departements. (screen, processor speed etc)

Actually if you look on Google you can get them for $550. I don't think he said anything about it being a touchscreen.

this is the point though. Meizu are breaking new ground with this phone. specifically with support for things like xvid and features like USB OTG. At this current time on the market there is no phone that can match the specification of the M8 without comprimising something. However in 6 monthes time things maybe different.

Great Idea - to bad only an idea.
This concept was great and was introduced to us early last year!
We all were wow, yea, great, etc... but the fact still remains, there is no product.
Most companies will not let people know about the product they are creating until they have a working proto type...
In this case, the company had no proto type, and had already set an expected release date for early 4th quarter last year. It never produced a product.
Almost every post keeps pushing the release date futher back.
Now they expect to show a proto type in March.
Now it's come down to, I gotta see the real thing to believe it. So far it's a load of talk and the CEO is just trying to get alot of publicity...
I have an Iphone, it works great, I would love to have an m8 mini one, but somehow I have a funny feeling, it either will never get released, or if it does, apple will have already come out with multiple versions of their iPhone and other companies will have better versions of their phones that are far better then the minione.
Even nokia is coming out with their version of the iPhone and they are closer to a prototype then this company is...
So sad really... Can a company that over promises and under delivers really be trusted?
Guess not...
Just my thoughts..
- Mike

Really? I'm only aware of them saying that it would be here in late 2007, and that was early last year...

Meizu Will Not Delay far The April-May
I'v Been Seen Some Products That Was Showen In CeBit.
After They Was Shown In Cebit, They Was Out For Sale Month-2 Months Later, But No More Then That. :D
I Think If Meizu Will Have A Working Prototype Without Problms, There Will No Reson To The M8 To Delay.
My Gess? April-May
(P.S: Sorry About My English)
Somone Forgot The Last CeBit? YouTube - Meizu at CeBIT 2007
If Somone Forgoted, The M3 Was Relesad After CeBit In April 04 2007.

Ok, that's it. I won't be getting a M8 if it won't be released and be available in China in March. Have to start looking around for another phone, all I really need is a big touchscreen and a widely supported OS like CE. Everything else would be nice but is no must.
This all is going horribly wrong for Meizu. I'd guess that Cowon and iRiver will be releasing a phone sooner or later too... and at least HTC, Samsung, LG and Nokia will probably have phones that can rival the M8 when it is released (or soon after that).

Now I am really sure that the Minione was a mere especulation since the beggining. We are talking about more than a year since the announcement of the release of this device, and we still can't see a working model?
Maybe if Meizu takes ten years more to release the Minione, they will have a so much better device than the Iphone! That's for sure, won't they?

You don't need to wait, it's almost for sure the M8 wont be released in March but later than that. If so they would have no problems now showing us at least a prototype at the CES.
Please take a month or 2 in account for the transition between prototype and mass production + quality testing. So March would become a May release (please note this is at the earliest). As they said they faced unexpected problems, which can happen again for all we know.

... well - I guess everybody is dissapointed now. And to be honest - if they do not show a working device now, the final design will not be out before september!
it is pretty usual (for established companies) to finetune 6 month. just see e.g. Sony Ericsson. New phone m600i. First shown protoype february 2006. I got it (still with some bugs) Octobre 2006 - as one of the first in Germany.
And as meizu is quite unexperienced in developing cell phones, I guess they will take longer.
The argument: 'the resolution and color of the TFT is too high' is s.th. you should be aware of while designing a phone - and honestly - I do not see the point to reduce the colors from 24 to 16 bit or lower the resolution (by software).. And althought this would be a wast of money for the TFT - the resolution of the iphone is fantastic and I prefere a fast phone/screen compared to a small but high resolved.
somehow I do not get the feeling, the M8 will come out soon . And if you tell me 'release in June' that still are 6 month ahead. Next month the big phone companies will show their new products - ready to be realesed latest Q3 2008. And I prefere spending 50 EUR more and waiting 1 month longer for an established brand than for a new one.
Just my thoughts...

Come on everybody.. stop all the drama, and negative vibes :P
Whenever it gets released (even if it's no longer revolutionary by then), the MiniOne will be a huge step for Meizu as a company, getting into a new (and much wider) market. It's understandable that they are trying to create a product that is as perfect as possible, since it will be the flagship to carry their brand name in the years to come.
I'm sure that they know the risks involved with this delay, but it would be far worse to release a buggy product (even if on schedule) after all the hype created around it.
Right now it's really a matter of asking yourself how desperate you are for a touchscreen phone, and if you really need one right now. I for one am happy with my current relatively cheap phone, and will wait for M8 until it's available. It's done when it's done. :P
