Resolution
I have the impression the resolution isn't as promised
I see a y-axis of 480 pixels, wheras 720 was promised
Correct me if I'm wrong..

yes you are correct the resolution of this photo is 480x320, the resolution of the iphones screen. There has been much debate surrounding a proposed change in screen res in the Chineses Meizu bbs. Apparently it will be 720x480 however. Member 'Ethnik' who goes in there regularly mentioned it here:
the latest m8 info (I'm a m8 fans from China)
this thread apparently from Mr wong Himself in the meizu BBS talks specifically about the screen res too:

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsIs nobody askinng themselves how there can be buttons in the lock screen if the screen is...locked? What's the use of taking up the space which can't be used?
They're not ripping us of with a lower resolution screen. Wong thought that 720x480 would be too big for a screenie.iPhone 3G 16 GB

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI would very much disagree. There has been zero progress from our perspective. Unless you call some images doctored in photo shop, progress. Seriously, these are not images from the actual OS- neither from an actual prototype or from the development PC. I really hate to say such negative things, but they really seem to be insulting our intelligence.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsIt all looks very much like the iPhone to my untrained eye. All this hoopla about the M8 raises some questions:
1) does anybody trust Meizu to release what is to be a very sophisticated and complex device with nearly flawless and eminently usable firmware? (especially considering their poor track-record with the M6)
2) how many current meizume members are actually planning on buying this thing?
As for my answers to those questions:
1) No. There might have been a day when my wishful thinking was still strong enough to believe, but no more.
2) No. Besides the fact that I don't trust Meizu to be able to write good software for a device many times more complex than the M6, I'm not all that won over by the convergence concept (many devices rolled into one).
Instead of the best of all worlds (cellphone, mp3/mp4 player, radio. camera. ...) it seems you only get a washed down lowest common denominator. Maybe one day, but that day hasn't come yet.

1) I don't know. This so called "track-record" looks kinda subjective as not all people have such great problems with the m6. (I know i dont)
I consider my old M6 non-SL with the newest firmware to be a fine compeditor for the newest-gen nano's, of which the screens are too small to watch video.
2) It's based on WinCE 6. Latest news says that the m8 hardware is ready for production, the UI isn't done yet. The outside will be from Meizu, the inner core will be WinCE 6. I'm not saying a microsoft OS is a good thing
, but I can imagine it will be better than a Meizu custom OS.
I can't imagine how a cellphone function can possibly suck, Meizu has proven themselves with great audio and good video, a radio function can't suck, don't expect a masterful camera or anything for the price of the m8.
But I gotta complain about the whole company strategy of Meizu. How the hell can they keep us waiting like that?! The release date is still unknown and way overdue and the non-3g decision was a terrible one. I wish I never heard of Meizu and buyed my M6, that way I wouldn't be breaking my mind waiting for this thing.iPhone 3G 16 GB

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsWell, I don't have any great problems with my M6 - the firmware has some glitches, but on the other hand it's nothing to kill my self over. Like DusL said, the OS of M8 won't be a product of Meizu itself - it will be Windows CE, so I am expecting it to be usable (even though I am no M$ fan). Regarding the whole "we haven't seen anything real yet" letdown, I decided to wait till CES... It's Meizu's last chance to show us the real McCoy and no DeCoy :D. If the device shows up in Las Vegas early next year, and If it's functionality will be presented in detail - then I will finally decide to get one of these or not. Hell, we've been waiting for so long now that we can surely wait one more month.

3G version won't be available at the beginning, but Jack said they'll release it after.
Can't wait to play with the Meizu MX!

uhm relax relax relax!! ... I think it's more that the screen shots of the GUI still look like the iphone/touch interface and not the physical design alone...
Anyhoo, relax, if you are sick of reading certain comments, then... skip them...
