CE is the full embedded Windows operating system. It has far more potential than scaled down derivatives like Windows Mobile.

I've developed for CE in the past. It is a real time OS and the OS Platform Builder software is very good. It gives Meizu the option to include (or exclude) all OS features. This includes full versions of Internet Explorer, instead of the next-to-useless mobile versions that come on most PDA phones.
interesting! from your experience with WIN CE is this type of device very difficult to program? How well would you say it is likely to be implemented? (going on the info available here)

The good thing about WinCE is that is uses the same API (Application Programming Interface) as Windows. It does not include the entire API or features, but it makes writing programs for CE simple, if you are already a Windows programmer. This is one of the reason why there are so many Windows Mobile programs out there.

nooo... PLEASE build in GPS! It's the only reason that I would choose the M8 over the iPhone anyway... i mean, M8 has superior specs, but it's just that iPhone has... you know. A huge community to support it. Everywhere you look there's cheap iPhone accessories, forums, tips, tricks... but that GPS! God it would be sweet to be lost somewhere and whip out my fully featured GPS phone...

I hear that the Hammerhead chipset costs as little as $2 or something.

The current specs mention buildt-in Wi-Fi, but it might be disabled in China or even removed.
There will not be a gps receiver in the M8 - you may use an external one connected via bluetooth.
DMB will be optional via an external device. Maybe you can hook up dvb-h but I don't think that this will be a wise decision: At least in Germany you will have to pay for dvb-h. DVB-T is for free.

It's a plus if you can play drm music/video/etc files! The player will not force you to download or use only drm files.

You will be able to play non drm files with the m8 (for example mp3) and I bet you can also play drm files. So you get a bigger choice of files you can play.

Please notice: It's not the device, which forces you to use drm files .. it's the store, where you buy the files! So buy your drm-free music/video/etc files at another store.

why in the world would a competing handset manufacturer (samsung) sign on to work on this? sounds like a load of BS to me...

Probably because all FLASH memory used by Meizu is supplied by Samsung.
Can't wait to play with the Meizu MX!

Because Samsung is primarily an electonic parts manifacturer, and later a handset manifacturer.
They produce chips. and they sell them. Meizu is among those customers.
    easy.

    That's exactly what I'm saying.
I want to be able to play whatever file, whatever source it comes from.
    It's not correct to say
it's the store to force your decision: it's often your device.
Take Windows Vista, or many Sony products ( not to mention Apple, of course); their DRM firewall is quite a limitation, is it?
it's not about supporting piracy, it's about protecting freedom.

    What is a DRM firewall?
I can play EVERY file with Windows Vista. I can listen to any music and watch any movie regardless their origin. I can install every product I want. I can do everything with Vista and Vista does not limit me in any way to do so.

You're lucky, that is not my case

You know, I was just using my actual cellphone, my ol' Sony Ericssson K750i. And i was wondering
how many of those lo-tech utilites would have gone lost buying the Meizu.
Things that don't really make you scream when you look at them,
    but god if they're useful.

Things like a powerful LED lamp/flash: you can switch it on in three steps from standby,
and it helps. it is really useful.
Or the Notes function: you can make notes of things you need to remember,
and show them in standby: makes a Post-It out of the cellphone, sticking the note in the middle of the screen.
An FM radio, too: Sometimes you get bored of all the music and video
    you've stuffed your mobile with.
The SE's got quite a fine RDS-EON receiver, displays the actual station name and really uses the AF function.

All of this is quite low-tech, compared to WI-FI, WIMAX, storage capacity or multitap touchscreen, yet make for a good all-in-one instrument.
The one you can rely on, sorta of a Victorinox of mobile phones.

    it amazing value for money
250 pounds for all that damn meizu wont be a "small" company if they can get this mobile to uk europe usa just think of where it can go without a contract as if apple have any competition with this thing
yeah sure coverflow and the fancy menu is nice but thats all it is nice.
    its just a losy ipod/phone :D

meizu i wish you luck and hope that you are going to kik apples arse with this mobilephone i would be offended if someone called my product a ripoff
haha isit even possible for a rip off to be better than the product your suposed to be ripping off :S ??

I'm guessing it means Wireless keyboard access or some kind of clip on/ mini usb attachment.

Simple, for the screens, Samsung makes a profit from every screen installed. Pluss, more press and to have a one up when they make there own models
