Thank you for the response of course. Don't take this the wrong way, but to be honest, I don't really want to have a "proper camera" on me all day. That is why we have camera facility on phones. A 3.2 megapixel camera on a phone will take good quality pics. I don't have a problem with that. But what happens when it is dark or night time with my Minione?
That is the answer I am looking for...

Thanked 1,024 Times in 375 PostsBlackstar is right, cameras on phones are not meant to be "professional" ones. it's just goond when you don't have your camera with you. anyway i haven't seen a good camera phone yet, even if it's 5 megapixel, the picture usually noisy and blurry...

Well its not likely that the miniOne will be equipped with a 3.2 MP camera let alone a 5MP camera. Typical cameraphones nowadays sport a 2MP CMOS camera which is of poor quality.
Unfortunately, a 3.2MP camera on a phone does not take good pictures, I happen to own a Nokia N93 which has a 3.2MP camera with carl zeiss lens and a
LED flash. I can say that its pretty much useless indoors and useless at night. It takes decent pictures only in good lighting conditions (i.e outdoors preferably on a sunny day).
Useless because the pictures are far too noisy and focus seems to have slight problems indoors (It looks good on your phones screen, but once you open the image on your computer, you will see the true horrors =P). The only "real camera" phone i've come across is the Sony Ericsson K850i, which has a 5MP CMOS camera with quite accurate colours, sharp focus, a xenon flash and very minimal noise. Even then it loses to a dedicated camera with a CCD lens.
Not to be too pessimistic, but I don't think the miniOne is marketed as a cameraphone, its more towards a multimedia phone. Hence if taking pictures in dark areas is going to be problematic, perhaps another mobile phone company would be worth your research into.
So.. What happens at nightime? You either settle with a low power LED flash which has an effective range of maybe 50-75cm (and the resultant is an image without detail, full of noise etc etc), or you don't take pictures at all. Of course, if the miniOne is to be released without a flash, you can forget taking any pictures in the dark.Last edited by Blackstar; 11-01-2007 at 10:48 AM.

Thanks guys for the response. I have to say that I have a Nokia n73 and even though you can't compare a real camera with a phone camera....I think the picture and video quality is fine for what it is intended to do.
Back to my original point...I just think that if the minione is going to have a 3 megapixel camera, it really should have some sort of flash....otherwise, why bother with 3 megapixels at all?

well not everyone would use their miniOne for night shots :D Some people would perhaps like to use the camera in the daytime.
It might be revealing to pull out a black miniOne in daytime, but rest assured its sexy anywhere and anytime.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsIf you want to take pictures, get a real camera to do the job. Any phone camera is more then best for taking happy snaps... especially for asians :P lol
One more thing: no matter how high in megapixels you get on a camera phone, that camera is not comparable to a normal digital camera. The lens is the difference, that's why you cannot stick a large lens on a phone... think about it.Meizu M8 MiniOne

I Just Recomand That The Camera Will Have A Flash.
Even If Its A Led, Its Look Cool With The "Toy Camera" And The "Toy Flash".
I Higly Recommand That The MiniOne Will Have Flash, Even A Night-Mode.

So based on the level of discussion I'm assuming that there will be a camera of some sort.

Yes...with apparently no flash of any sorts I believe.
And just to stop any more people coming in here and telling me that a phone camera is not comparable to a digital camera and that I should "get a camera"...I don't want to get a camera!
I am happy taking "happy snaps" with my camera phone. I just think it would be rather annoying not being able to do that when it is dark or night time with the minione. Why have a camera on the phone with rather high megapixels compared to other phones, then tell people that they can't use it if the light conditions aren't perfect? That is my point from the outset.
How about we move on and appreciate the other qualities of this great phone. The camera w/o flash for me is a let down.

just to give you some peace on the "why"s of this world... :
nowadays almost everything is possible, so when you develop a product, you determine exactly what you want... taking into consideration how much it would actually cost you and who you want to target with your product (because you need to sell your product to as much people as possible.. your kids want to eat).
now let's think for a moment, this product's developpers wanted to put a "real" camera in it, with high end optics and everything that goes with it. The material cost alone would have been raised by at least 200 dollars, not to mention the development cost of actually cramming things in that little space.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI understand...so then why even bother with the phone at all then? Wouldn't that keep the cost of the phone down and price subsequently?
In any case, lets not harp on it. This looks like it will be a great phone regardless. Lets focus on its positives.

Like I Said,
It Will Be Really Nice If Meizu Will Add A Flash, Even A Led Flash

Haha, don't even say that or we will be doomed for three more pages of a tripod topic instead of price and availability chatter.
So many things have been changing and moving around this year for the M8 its hard to pinpoint anything but memory space.
1. Release date? I thought it was supposed to be released around November- December but with the lack of advertisement I would now assume it will be after the holidays.
2. Last I understood the phone feature would not be available in the U.S.A. However, there wasn't Wifi on the phone at the beginning of the year and now its strongly rumored that there is Wifi.
3. There was also talk of a non-Camera release of the phone that would be first and that later consumers may purchase a camera at their own expense and have it installed. I wonder what that is about.
4. I can see the argument now that people should just get an iphone over the meizu but let me stress something. The iphones browser tracks your wifi usage. Even if you pay for your own wifi, it still charges you to use the iphone to use your network. Furthermore, for those clever ones who jailbreak the iphone let me also assure you it is a pain in the butt. And the updates to prevent the jailbreak will come faster and faster. No doubt the new ways of jail breaking will also, but thats going to be a far bigger mess than its worth. Jail breaking your iphone once a month or two. Not including all the software that may have to be reloaded or updated. One big mess. Its worth paying the 20 extra bucks for the Meizu to get free wifi capability trust me.
One thing is for sure the Meizu company is brilliant in keeping fans speculating. You can't buy this type of hype over a phone. Although I don't personally own one the m6 consumers seem to be very happy with their product. With that said I think it would be fair to reason the M8 will be no different.
It would just be nice to get some of all these questions answered.

Everything is a trade-off. Would I rather have a flash, even an LED-flash, than no flash? Yes. Would I rather have a camera with no flash than no camera at all?
YES.
My current phone (HTC "Star Trek", aka Dopod S300) has a camera, but no flash. It has "indoor" and "flourescent" and "night" modes that can compensate to varying degrees, but really, most of the things I want to take photos of with it (shots of the Petronas Towers from the hotel bar in KL, some quick snaps of friends when meeting up in Sydney, whatever, are in the daytime, and even if the photos are crappier than an actual digital camera, they beat *nothing*, which is what I would have otherwise (since I don't carry a "real" camera around with me 24x7 like I do my mobile).
Anyway - in a couple of years, it will be a moot point, since liquid-crystal dynamic refractive lenses, and fluid-filled pressure-flex lenses are already in testing (or beta products for the latter), you'll soon have 3x and 4x magnification and much-improved cmos with noise-correcting tech that will give quality near what digital cameras have today (and they'll be small, and cheap enough to put in mobiles).
Now - back to the REAL question - will Meizu EVER friggin' release this thing? I live in Thailand, and have been thinking about going to Beijing next year anyway (Olympics), so maybe if it's out by.. um.. like JUNE or whatever, I'll pick one up!
