Many companies that make pdas do not offer some of these functions.

exactly how many movies can be stored on 16GB when encoded at 720x480@30fps, i assume that this is so you can have a pmp to attach to a tv? as the screen wont be that resolution
16GB device will be pricey though, and until i speak personally to J Wong and get written legal proof from him i would not trust to speculation from meizu!!! They say alot but do very little

would it not be better to go for something like HDD based player from the likes of Creative labs - more movies etc can be stored on 60 GB than 16

16GB is not alot of space for a all singing all dancing device like this

and Bluetooth, well i can live without this inadequate and buggy protocol thank you

Really nice, needs a bit more colors as err0r allredy mentioned. Some are saying "meh they copied iPhones GUI", so? The iPhone has an extreamly nice GUI. I don't care if Meizu copies or not, I just want it to look good.

makd511: majority of content I will be using to play on the m8 will be xvid encoded series and the occasional film (and perhaps some music). Usually these are no where near 720x480 but it is nice to have full support which totally omits the need for re-encoding. You could fit 22 700mb xvid movies on 16gb or 64 250mb tv/cartoon episodes. There is no other phone in the world I am aware of that can decode xvid up to 720x480 @ 30fps. Or I could use perhaps 10gb for music and 6 for a few epiosdes or films. Alternatively I could use the 8gb version just for a few films and series and carry a small 16gb flash player for music. I have found no problems useing bluetooth on other phones to send music and pictures to friends. This phone will also be cheaper than most and readily available offline without contract. Plus very few people are likely to have it here in the uk. In terms of a 16gb release date, as you say meizu are very shaky, however i believe we will see an 8gb by february. In terms of PMP's I still may buy a pmp. I was very interested in cowon's new products the a3 and the q5, but they are extortionatly priced. Archos on the other hand need more battery life. I like the idea of carrying just one device and the m8 is a step closer to this. Don't think this will become ideal for me until phones ship with 64gb flash and at least 7hrs battery for media viewing.

Why the heck are they changing the original qwerty layout to a "homemade" layout. They copy almost everything but they change the stuff that they shouldnt change.

this is strange, however the buttons do look bigger than those of the iphones, will take a while to get used to

I just realized the keyboard does look weird. I hope it's not really 'final'.

    @DuSL:
Chinese characters can be written using an english keyboard as pin yin (basically a romanization of Chinese words based on what they sound like).

And? Please don't confuse WinCE with windows mobile in many cases WinCE will use a highly customized UI, the main reason for companies like Meizu choosing it as to not be limited by the Windows Mobile limitations.

It's a shame because Meizu could have carved themselves a nice niche for their small and great auio quality products. Yet now, they will be known as just one rip-off merchant. It just shows you how a company can start with a great idea and then mess it up royally.
if big Intel can copy the iPhone, why not the tiny Meizu

i had a O2 XDAII pda phone for about 3 years, it already had camera, phone, media player, movies etc.. etc... on it, i got rid of the thing because it was so big and bulky - a right royal pain in the bum- not to mention the fact that windows kept on crashing all the time!!! (good luck meizu).

Apple, once again, did not invent the concept of the IPhone its been around for years, the same way they did not invent digital music players, but all credit to the apple guys, they know how to profit from other peoples ideas - its all about spin and marketing - and apple are the pros at this

so WHY would any of you want to get a hulking great brick of a phone to carry around -i do not understand - explain it to me someone, whats the facination with the M8 - is it only the fact that you will be sticking it to apple - or is it that you really want an apple IPhone but cant afford one!! so you get the next best thing
Actually APPLE *DID* just that, invent the PDA only to be put out of the PDA market for over a decade, it would be good if you check your facts before posting statements like this:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Newton

Who has indicated that Apple invented the digital audio player? They did however invent a complete package and UI that everyone still wants to copy to more or less degree.

Typing this on an OQO 02 not invented by Apple but all the guys who started the company up came from Apple, also look up the spec of this "brick" www.oqo.com and you'll see people even want to haul bricks, now none of these products you mention though are even close to being a brick the only non UMPC thats a brick is the HTC x7500, it almost sounds like you haven't even seen an iPhone in person, thats ONE of my complaints about the iPhone that the screen is smaller than the legend within PDAs Dell x51v which sill beats ALL PDAs and PocketPC phones to date.

True even as a straight PDA (witout any phone capabilities) it would be better than any other PDA out there till now.

Well you've now truely shown that you're not well informed, based on the fact that you're in the UK I can only assume you use GSM (is there even any other std there currently?) are you complaining about the GSM system, well FYI the BT technology is based on GSM and works like a miniture GSM network and yes I worked with the company that developed BT back when they did, appearently you've not used it correctly or used products of low quality based on your comments one might even get the impression that you perhaps havent even used BT at all.

Until you identify which audting company you work for, there won't be any "written legal proof" of anyting provided to you sir (mam?).

It appears your totally unaware of Meizu's current lineup of products??

Well actually 16 Gb isn't that small. True, it cant be used as a movie/song tank but i'm guessing that people will usually connect the m8 to the pc pretty often. Even better, if the wifi is capable of finding my shared maps you'll have 16Gb + [insert HDD space here].
16 gig is more than enough for 15 movies and a butt load of songs. You can replace the 15 movies with almost 4 seasons of Southpark

@makd511; You're saying the m8 wont have a resolution like 720x480, but actually it does :P

IMO the gunmetal gray looks very sleek and professional. If I'm not mistaken there will be an option to change the secondary and AUX colors for that GUI. (Taken from an unconfirmed source)

Not bad, but I feel like the colors are too... dim. Anyway, this is starting to look great, it's good to have news from M8. I just want to know 3 more things now: 3G? 16GB+? PRICE?

i am sorry my friend but i have NO IDEA what you are on about here.

bluetooth has always been a notorious pain in the backside and if you were one of the original developers then you should be shot (only kidding)

what i am aware of is meizu and their current range of products - i am also aware that meizu like to throw about ideas in the form of images like the start of this thread, this starts a bal rolling much like Chinese whispers, and many of the ideas just disappear never to be seen again.

i am with no auditing company!!! i meant that i take what J Wong puts ou with a pinch of salt - i will only believe i when i see it (the final spec that is!!)

i never said apple did not invent the PDA - please read and get your facts straight before posting, i said the "concept of the IPhone" i.e. PDA and phone (although i will admit to forgetting about the newtion)

The masses of apple users, the ordinary man / woman on the street really do believe that apple invented all things MP3 and mobile - i only post from experience here - not any sort of survey!!! not all users are geeks like us!!

sorry - still believe UMPC and PDA etc are bricks, once inside protective cases - and these really are needed, they seem to double in size - if you do not carry a briefcase around with you all day then they do feel like a brick

The GUI does look really nice. They just have to address the colours, and possibly fixing up that keypad layout =S
