J. Wong CEO replied in their forum yesterday they can't afford to maintain two different operating systems so the R&D for the Meizu M8 was cancelled. This is not unexpected since they haven't been selling the phone for quite a while now. Their main focus is now the M9 and the upcoming M9II. This probably means no more firmware upgrades will come to the M8 in the future.

Thanked 1,140 Times in 438 PostsIt doesn't necessarily mean that, Android porting have been done by fans and not Meizu (they only released some drivers) so personally I don't think it will stop. Official Android can be ruled out though.

Thanked 8 Times in 7 Poststhat would be great, but that would mean for Meizu much lost money...if they would give me a choice to use official android for maybe 10€, I would pay for it! 100 000 users = 1 000 000 € big bag of money no?

RIP Meizu M8. We had it good while it lasted, but then you decided to break on me. Now that you're approaching the end of your life, I hope you can still cherish our memories together.

Thanked 173 Times in 72 PostsYeah, I saw this one coming to...
I just hope they can release the source for the drivers so we can get a decent android port.
We could get the 2.6.32/2.6.35 kernel from somewhere else.
But frankly, I don't see any point in porting Android to the M8. 256MB of ROM is very little, 256MB of RAM is acceptable. And using NAND isn't an option because it is really slow.
And on top of that, the M8 doesn't have 3G/3G+, it doesn't have GPS and it doesn't have a standard screen resolution.
So, bye bye M8...Last edited by LVL; 04-14-2011 at 01:50 PM.

Thanked 4 Times in 2 PostsI find it totally unacceptable
I think this is totally unacceptable. They sold a telephone with unfinished firmware, experimenting on a great number of customers who bough M8.
The least they could do is to finalise the firmware and/or deliver acceptable Android version since they have done most of the work on the M9.

Thanked 8 Times in 7 PostsWhat do you need in "FINAL FW"? I do not see any problem with my M8...wifi is working good, calls are stable and I have better signal than other phones where they have problems, notification of sms delivery is working. As mp3 player is best that I ever I... tell me what you need to improve.

Thanked 173 Times in 72 PostsPeople are spoiled with the updates Meizu constantly provided.
I don't think we can complain at all.
Just let it go, just let it go...
A cheap phone like the ZTE Blade/Orange San francisco(and the many other names the networkproviders have given this phone) is a really great alternative. Great android community, great phone.
If you have more money, and you loved the M8, I recommend the M9. Just remember that it will be a great journey to a almost bugfree phone...
Only little companies provide so many updates on a single phone, so respect Meizu and the nature of this great company.
May the flamewar and the debate around the "unfinished firmware" be over to!Last edited by LVL; 04-15-2011 at 04:41 PM.

Thanked 10 Times in 7 PostsExcuse me but a smarphone without a calendar service is not really smart!
A smartphone is a phone + PDA and none of the PDA functions work well in the M8. Android is the last chance for M8.
Meizu selled a phone without working firmware and with defective screen. But ok we believe in the potential of this company and we waited. But now to publish M8 android drivers may be the good way to ask us 'sorry' for have using us as beta testers and convince us to buy the M9.

Just a bunch of crooks!
Meizu is the most pathetic company I have ever seen! They took the money from all the early M8 buyers and have not released a reasonable firmware to date.
I hope I will find a buyer for my M8 - alternatively I will have to trash this lousy device ...

Thanked 8 Times in 7 PostsFor example Apple have more hardware bugs than software, but I think that better is to have software , because with new FW are solved bud hardware you cant´t just do anything.
