Meizu miniOne Not a Mobile Phone?

Gadget blog Engadget have finally gotten to the Meizu CeBIT booth and have dugg up some new information on the Meizu miniOne M8 set to be released at the end of 2007.

According to Thomas Ricker of Engadget, the Meizu representatives said that they are planning a M8 miniOne release outside China, in the North American and European market as a audio/video-only player with no cellphone capabilities.

Also, the M8 was said to have a 2 megapixel camera rather than the 3 megapixel camera that was previously reported.

Finally, Meizu also confirmed that the M8 would play video at 30 FPS utilizing the full screen resolution of 720 x 480 pixels.

true... there's no point in all that hardware too.
Perhaps a pda/mp3 thingy could get more interest then

but, at the end does this mean that it wont have GSM??

uhh I guess so yes... if it wont have phone abilities it wont be a GSM... it will just be a music player... :S
The PDA thing might be nice but kind of boring..
If it will be just a media player there is no way 8GB will cut it... how many movies at that resolution can you fit on 8gb?

Wow, Meizu really knows how to send its fans running from them, sending their business into a downward spiral.

HEY MEIZU... FIRE THE IDIOTS! HIRE SOMEONE WHO KNOWS SOMETHING ABOUT THE MARKET, DAMNIT!

When I heard about the "no phone phone" that USED to be the MiniOne, I almost fell off my seat. What in the hell are they thinking. It's like putting out another M6 without a screen. For God's sake, USE YOUR MINDS, MEIZU.

I'm too angry to continue...

This would suck, and Meizu would lose a lot of cash, because I don't think that much people would get it if it does not work as a phone.

hey guys, I don't think that meizu headquarters are stupid! They probably don't want to pay for marketing fees and by doing this, all chinese sellers will sell directly to the US their miniOne m8 music/cell phone players and do the marketing for themselves. Later, meizu will introduce their phone version to the U.S. market after they establish some marketing hype by their local Chinese buyers without paying a penny! IMHO, that is what they are doing..

BTW, I was a user before, how come it shows I have only one post?

Our site crashed sometime nearing the end of last year, or you were deleted for not logging in for 2.5 months.

Maybe Legal issues, they will be chewed up by apple lawyers if they try to sell their phone, maybe this is a work around, and (i hope) with a firmware update it becomes a phone or something like that.

That really stinks... would the phones released in China be able for use in other countries (eg Australia)? Looks like we'll have to buy it from overseas...

i mean, the phone version, what networks will it support?

of course, as a china company, meizu will look to it's interest first. it's hard to develop hardware for a standard that they know nuts about.

hmmm .. i donno .. in Europe it would work. no question, because asia and europe bothe use GSM900 and GSM1800 but barts of Amerika use GSM1900 which is not in asia ...

If in your Part of Amerkika GSM900 or GSM1800 is supportet by your provider, the m8 should work ...

Frequenz Kontinent
450 MHz Celtel Tanzania
480 MHz Celtel Tanzania
850 MHz Amerika
900 MHz Asien, Europa
900 MHz Europa
900 MHz Afrika, Amerika, Asien, Australien, Europa
1800 MHz Afrika, Amerika, Asien, Australien, Europa
1900 MHz Amerika

i'm in asia....so it would work. but the 3g portion of the phone would be suspect as to the type of 3g network it would support.

but enough lusting over this. let's wait for the first review to come out before any decision is made.
