Well, crap. With this, it's another overglorified media player outside of China. And it'll have to compete with the likes of the Archos in that ground (Apple and Creative are easy to beat, but Archos? Good luck. They don't just have rep, have THE rep). Jeez, Meizu, just switch the shell back to the old white one outside of China and you'll be safe already (most of us won't mind anyway). Why the hell do companies keep on selling by promising so much, then disabling features? How did that ever become a viable business model?

    i would kill for this

if they would put out a freakin phone, i wanted the iphone, i already have a mini player, why would i buy something for like 4 times the price of a miniplayer, that does very little more.

Now if t coudl be used with ie or firefox to use open public wifi, thats a different story, now that would be handy. . .

I am sure they will come up with something good.
They wont just release the same thing but stripped of the phone... that wouldnt make sense...

Think of it this way. It's said on the article that it'd be tri-band. So, people from US can still import it through means like Ebay and whatnot. I love the design of the miniOne and it's one of those phones with EVERY possible feature I want. But there're tons of iphone clones on Ebay nowadays that you can import, even with apple logos, that works quite work in Canada/US.

Bottom line is, if you really love the M8, you most likely would be able to use it since it's an unlocked tri-band in China anyhow. When you're just shipping the phone to your house, it's not our problem to worry about international copyright or whatnot.

    Just my 2 cents...

In the old thread someone asked what was the deal with the iPhone and that there are smartphones already. Yes, there are. I have one with a touchscreen, 3G etc. It's running UIQ (Symbian). And it is constantly crashing, like Windows Me. The browser runs so slow that it takes 10 seconds to load eBay and 60 seconds to display the website. The usability is... not really good, it works, and I'm happy with the phone, but the iPhone appears to be the messiah. The M8 seemed to become the cheaper version with better sound quality and more features, but with compromises on the software side (usability) and probably not so durable. Price and sound quality were enough to make me want the M8. But now that the iPhone is almost as cheap as the M8 and it is simlock-free?

You can't get a US iPhone with 16GB and it still does not have a removable battery.

If it's GSM, i'll probably still be buying the Chinese model. I highly doubt it'll support the 850 band though.. whiich is what I need in my area
