How To: Upgrade Firmware on the Meizu M8
Here are the instructions on how to update the firmware on your Meizu M8.
- Place the xip.bin file into the root of the Meizu M8 via USB Disk mode.
- Shut the device down.
- Hold the play and power button for a few seconds, and you will be booted into upgrade mode. (for M8se : Power and VolumeUp)
- Press the upgrade button and wait.
- Restart the phone.
Note: Everything outside of the Disk folder will disappear. Make sure to backup your contacts!
Update: In newer versions of firmware everything will be backed up (settings, apps, contacts, desktop icons) if you run the backup before upgrade.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI don't know what you do on a mac, but on a PC its very simple, use winrar or any other program to open the .rar file, there is a xip.bin file within the rar, drag and drop that onto your desktop on the PC. Then follow the instructions above.

The root is the first thing you see after you open your players drive in "My Computer".
If you are having trouble with your player, please visit this thread first and try the steps before you panic. Most likely you will be able to fix your player easily using the steps listed.

You are referring to the "Sim manager", it will only copy your sim contact to your phone. That the first thing you will do to let your contact appears on your phone. (But it will be erased every time you upgrade). Thats why need to back up. To back up, choose the "Contact Manager" and click the "Backup Contacts" and choose "Merge to card", this will copy your contact to the Disk\Contact\Backup folder. (This file wont be erased during upgrades).
You can explore from there, use the contact manager... backup or import.. and careful not to use the "cover to phone"... or you will have double entries on contact names
