How To: Upgrade Firmware on the Meizu M8

This is a discussion on How To: Upgrade Firmware on the Meizu M8 within the M8 Firmware forums, part of the Meizu M8 category; does anyone know if using the xip.bin update, the bootloader gets updated also, or just the ce kernel?...

I just got my M8. If I update to version 9.0.5, will it be in English or Chinese?

I only speak and read english

everytime you make a firmware upgrade the phone sets the language to chinese

but you can switch it back to english

you have to memorize the way to the lang.settings as long it is in english...so you can find your way back to the language settings when its in chinese

ok, is there a thread describing what to do? That would be nice

never mind, the person I bought it from updated everything, I just want to get rid of his things and learn to do it myself...

I guess it's not worth the trouble?

I updated the firmware, but I also want to format the player:

"ON/OFF and the “|<<” buttons together and until player turns OFF itself."

What are the "| <<" buttons?

    Hi everybody,

maybe it'll sound stupid but it doesn't work by pressing on the power and play button at the same time

either the player starts or the menu with "shut down"/"restart"/"cancel" options appear.

So what to do?! And the xip.bin file is in the right root. please help a noob

^ the phone must be off first
when switching on, that's when you hold the play and power button simultaneously.

also, how will users the se edition meizu m8 upgrade, they removed the music button...

@Keks: Did you read the tutorial?
Here are the instructions on how to update the firmware on your Meizu M8.
Place the xip.bin file into the root of the Meizu M8 via USB Disk mode.
    Shut the device down.
Hold the play and power button for a few seconds, and you will be booted into upgrade mode.
Press the upgrade button and wait.
    Restart the phone
