New FW Battery Drain observations - is it just me?

    Hi,

Something I have noticed, that I notice many people also have complained about, is the battery drain in the new FW's (for me 0.9.8.22).

One thing I have noticed most recently in the last few days/week, is that the battery icon in the top right of the main screen sometimes is showing different battery levels to what is actually happening (I think).

Example: My icon was in the red area just now (so around >20%), which led me to believe I needed to charge (had been a full 23 hours since my last full charge ). BUT, as soon as I connected it to power it registered as 67% battery available and began topping up the charge. The 3 minutes it took me to log into the forum and type this thread has already seen it jump the battery up to 80%. I would expect to maybe get 2-3 days life from the battery with normal usage as a minimum (compared even to older fw's), so maybe it is the icon itself misleading the user causing some of the issues with battery life?

Or is this just me noticing this?

Another thought also......would maybe batteries on the earlier models start to be dieing a natural death? Even my old phone Nokia batteries used to only last me a year of life before slowly not holding charge anymore. Maybe the same issue here with people that have the FE M8's?

The same thing has been happening to me on fw 0.9.8.6. Sometimes its at 80% and i plug it in my computer to add some new songs and the second i plug it in, it jumps to 99%. I don't know what has caused this

I have noticed the same, except it's kind of like the M8 is panicking with the battery level after use.

I made a phone call last night and immediately afterwards the 20% warning message popped up and the battery level looked low and was red. I forgot to charge it last night and now (some 17 hours later) the battery shows about 30% and green.
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.

Maybe it just needs a battery meter calibration.

All you need to do is let it run flat, then recharge it to 100%.

This is caused by a high current floating out of the battery that gives a voltage drop...
the battery meter is adjusted by a kind of voltage meter that measures the input voltage on the phone, the lower it gets the lower the battery is in theory....
in practice if the phone consumes a lot of power there will float a higher current, so with a battery of only 1200mah like the m8 has there will be a big voltage drop! so while gprs, wifi, bluetooth, music on internal speakers, screen background light @ 100% there will be a wrong measurement...
after connecting an external source like the charger or an usb cable the voltage drop will be lowered enormously because the battery is supported by the external source so there will float less current through the circuit that came from the battery. the external source will become the biggest power supplier of the phone... what happens: the current flow will be lower, the voltage measured on the battery will become higher and so the battery meter will show a higer percent left... after plugin out the external source drop will become larger and larger and the battery will drain much faster again...

so to keep it simple... the measurement just sucks because there is something in the phone that is consuming more power since the latest FW updates (I think it is the CPU caused by more apps that are running as a background process like widgets and stuff)...

Thanks for the explanation I have mentioned this before in other posts. I believe you are right. Nothing is managing processes on the cpu level.

Actually on fw 0.9.8.22 there are running 18 background processes:

    AppointmentDBDetect.exe
    CallUi.exe
    ConnectManager.exe
    explorer.exe
    MiniOneShell.exe
    NK.exe
    PhoneApp.exe
    PhoneDaemon.exe
    servicesd.exe
    SmsUi.exe
    StkManagerUi.exe

    and 7 times
    udevice.exe

May could anyone who has the old Ui installed have a look at the processes so we could figure out changes here...

P.S.: I have exactly the same problems as the thread starter

The ammount of process has nothing to do with how much "calculating force" they need so it doesn't say anything about the cpu and memory usage...

    This isn't correct.

It depends on the amount of processes in general (much small processes are also forcing the CPU to calculate more things), and of course as you said the memory/CPU usage of those processes.

The amount of used memory is also shown in M8Sprite but I didn't want to write it all down here until anyone confirms being able to help with an old fw.

Unfortunately I do not know of any tool which is able to check with process is consuming what amount of CPU power

offcourse a lot small will act like one big process but I can make 500 processes without even getting the cpu running on 1%... you can make processes that only need some memory and only use the cpu to sync there clockfrequenty to make steps...

I really think there is atleast one process and at max 5processes that are consuming way more cpu power then they did before

I'm are having the same problem here with the leaked 9.8.8.
The meter is just crazy, go up and down... And when are recharging never pass than 99%.
Meizu need fix that, it's a HUGE bug.
