It is free.. But to see the map you have to run via WiFi or GPRS, because it is always be downloaded by the internet.

Thanked 173 Times in 72 PostsOk, that is a-w-e-s-o-m-e
Trying it right now!:D
Edit: It works really well! Much smoother than before.
If you tap the compass icon, it gives a certain radius in which you are.
The center is a few blocks away from where i live,so its not accurate, but hey, it's free
Is there any way to download maps into the cache?
Because it would be nice to use it some place where i can not access WiFi.Last edited by LVL; 09-30-2009 at 09:13 PM.

I agree LVL would be great to used when your not connected.
In the old version I used to set my address i wanted to go to as the default location in the program. When I open mbar maps again it will automatically bring up the location you saved connected or not.
Haven't tried this with new version though.FW 0.9.6.9

Hi everybody.
When I used this application, the first time I needed to go online to download the map but then, maps were memorized and I could navigate without having acces to wifi or GPRS.
I'll try to test again but it worked for sure

You are able to download the google map tiles for an area with a program called GMapCatcher, it's free and you can download it from (apparently I am not allowed to post links so you can just google GMapCatcher and follow the first link).

Hi,
I tried GMapCatcher and I have downloaded some maps. Can I use these maps on MbarMaps. If yes, how ?
Thanks in advance.

English?
Seems like a good program, I need to fiddle with it for a bit, but right off I notice I can't rotate the screen. It goes all buggy if I press that button, also while the program is in English, the maps arn't. I am currently in China so I am guessing it is hitting google hk for the maps. Can I change this? And yes
I realize maps of China are in Chinese, but it displays Canada maps in Chinses too.
I am using the most recent official release. v.0.9.8.6

Thanked 1 Time in 1 PostIt's a little bit complicated to explain, but simple to do.
All you need to do is find the folders where the tiles are stored on the computer, they will be in numbered folders, and overwrite the same folders on the M8 in the MBar Maps folder. It might take a few minutes to look around (using the usb is recommended!).
Hope that makes sense.
Also noticed that with the latest official FW (9.8.6) rotate crashes the program and the compass icon does not find the GSM position, the maps are working, but there might be a problem with satellite images (am in the process of downloading satellite images - the overlay is fine).Last edited by Alchemist; 04-25-2010 at 03:09 PM.
