How DO You Make Good Icons for Apps

With the new Desktop manager, you can change the icons of the apps. How can you make a good one, the blends into the background? All I know is: .png!

You can download a picture, and using somewhat more advanced photo editing software, you can turn down the opacity. I'm not sure of any good ones for Mac, but Paint.NET is free and works great on Windows.

Here's a tutorial how to make an image transparent. Basically it works the same in every photo editor software so you should be able to figure it out.
