Opera Language and settings
In the thread "Tips & Tricks" which I might add is a really neat compilation of useful information it was mentioned that to get to the Opera settings, you open the browser and in the address field Type Opera:Config
This would give the settings for Opera.
I have a question, I am in the US on the TMobile network and the Phone (I would say a small PC instead) is working fine, I have cracked the Wifi , Bluetooth and the Edge settings and am happy with all that.
The issue is the Opera Browser itself...
It tends to go to the Chinese versions of the sites you type in the address bar....
For Example... If I want to go to Gmail... I type www.gmail.com....
but it takes me to the Chinese Gmail site....
Same with other sites... google/ yahoo/ etc...
Can some one let us know if there is some setting in the browser or the phone that disables this ... and just let it go to the normal www for the address typed...
I have searched all over this forum but could not get any info on this....
Thanks,

FOund the solution for this here in Tips...
Copied from a post by beefaronee:
"I had this problem as well. You will need to edit the operarc file located in your \Program Files\WebBrowser directory. Look for the line that reads:
Language File=\Program Files\WebBrowser\locale\zh-cn.lng
Change it to read:
Language File=\Program Files\WebBrowser\locale\english.lng
Next, go down to the second to last line. It will look like this:
HTTP Accept Language=zh-cn,en;q=0.8
Change it to read:
HTTP Accept Language=en;q=0.8
That should take care of your problem. I just used notepad to make the edits. Be sure to make a copy of you original file should something go wrong. You can always restore it."
=============
Here is what I did...
Copied the file "operarc" to the disk.
Then connected to the PC, copied to PC, opened with Notepad, made the changes and copied to a Backup Folder on the Disk of M8
Copied it back to the original location...
After this, Now when I try Google, or Gmail... I DO NOT go to the Chinese versions....
It takes me to the International Version... ENGLISH.....yahoooooo

Thanks beefaronee... for the tip...

What do you use to alter the file "operarc" , I can see the file name when i'm not connected to my computer, but can't edit it. When I connect to the usb port can't find the file. What am I missing here?

The file is located in the Device > Program Files > Web Browser....
As such this is invisible to the PC when the device is connected via USB. That is why we can do formats and upgrades without loosing any of the program downloads.
This is what needs to be done:
On the M8, copy the file from its location to a folder under Disk.
Once you do this it will accomplish 2 objectives.
1) It will be the back up of the file if things get screwed up after you have placed the modified file in the original folder.
2) You can copy the file from this location using USB connection to a PC....
When you connect the device to PC.. you see the Disk Folder and the sub folders.. So now you can copy the file to the PC, modify it as discussed, and drop it back to the M8, best is to drop it some place else that from where picked it up, this way if things do not work out you still have a copy of the original file to use...
Once in PC, open with Notepad.. and follow the instructions...
Let us know if this works for you or if you need further help....
Happy Browsing...

It is already in the Tips & Tricks.. somehow slipped thru as I think it was posted some time back.
I will let you know about the flickr site, but just a pointer... delete the history , clear cache and cookies on the phone, then see what happens. There is no reason for everything being in english and Flickr to show up in Chinese.
Another idea different subject though if you go to the operamini site, they have a simulator for the browser IS there a way we caN create an online simulator for the phone where we could test some of the new stuff that keeps on popping all over the place...
I Love this phone never a dull day something new almost every day...

Thanked 1 Time in 1 PostThanks for this - worked great for me. However I am still having problems with Opera. I can't input any English text into forms (e.g. Google). I'm using the international keyboard from this site (latest I think) and when I press the key buttons nothing happens. I can input punctuation and numbers fine but no letters. Help would be much appreciated.
Another off topic problem I have is I have no autocompletion of words when typing txts as I did with the original Chinese keyboard. Again help would be appreciated.
Many thanks to everyone on this forum - I've found some extremely useful guides and apps while setting up my new phone.

That's not so great. Do you have to just keep switching back and forth? Or is there a better English keyboard app? Or a good browser that works with this keyboard? Or is someone working on a keyboard that will work?

Thanked 1 Time in 1 PostThese seem like reasonably big problems. Can't someone just edit the default keyboard to default to EN rather than CH and it'll still work with predictive text and opera? Or am I way oversimplifying things?
