How do you install apps on the M8?

I will be getting my M8 pretty soon and would love to know before hand how to install apps on it. I have downloaded a few at the moment and in some of them there is a cab installer and then a cab file. An example of this would be the REAL plugin. Could someone shed some light on this for me please?

    Thanks in advance.

M8 support .cab setup, the cab is a integrated install file, now you can download many apps on Meizu official web.

Since the SDK announced, the apps for M8 become more interesting, I have installed a software which can make me control M8 with finger shaking above the earpiece.

Ha, shake once is the expecting function, backward... twist can open task manager.....awesome

hi shakuras, thanks for replaying. So would I just put the .cab file in the apps folder and then run it from the phone? Or should I use the .exe file that comes with the REAl player plugin for something first.

I may be getting my phone later today, so I hope I can figure it out easily enough. Thanks

you can put a cab file in the phone and click on it and install, i have not found many ppc apps that install on the phone; softmaker office, i downloaded and tried to install, but got a message saying the CPU was not compatible, maybe just got the wrong version.
What i haven't found yet, is how to uninstall the application? Anyone have the same problem?

    thanks anxiousone...

That does seem like a bit of a problem, not being able to uninstall, hmm. Would it be possible to just connect it via usb and delete them manually?

Yes, you can go into the directories and manually delete them via usb or on the phone, then you would also have to cleanup the registry.
When i connect via vista mobile device center and go to add remove programs, the installed programs show up on the add/remove screen, but you cannot check or uncheck because the boxes are greyed out.

To uninstall, simply go to Documents > Windows > control.exe and doublepress the third icon.

There should be an uninstall button somewhere there, you don't have to check or uncheck anything, just highlight the program and press it (at least that's how it works with some smartphones...)

Nope, no uninstall button, and no add button either... basically all it does is pull up a list of programs already on the phone; so its not really either an ADD or a REMOVE interface for the M8, as i am guessing Meizu hasn't developed that yet, just something that is native to the platform so its more a windows driven thing.

i wonder if you can access the WM uninstaller somehow?

Rabsi: i would assume you can install as many apps as your phone will hold. Although you won't be able to run that many because the phone and program memory are allocated separately.

If you were to use XP you had an uninstall button there
But as you say an official uninstaller would be nice...

Can anyone explain where to put and a step by step of what way to put these files:

    • NETCFv35: This is needed for almost all games and software for WinCE & the M8. There are three versions inside the ZIP - NETCFv35.wce.armv4.cab is the one for WinCE.
    • Real Plugin: Adds Real Media compatibility (RM and RMVB files).
    • FoxIt Reader (Read PDFs):
      Primary Download: M8 Fans
      Mirror 1: MediaFire

      SoftMaker Office 2008:
      Primary Download: M8 Fans
      Mirror 1: MediaFire
    • M8 Games Pack 1 (Bejeweled, Chuzzle, Reversi, Space Defender, Spore, Super Wild Wild Words, ZUMA, 斗地主):
      Mirror 1: MediaFire
Thanks in advance for the help.

NetCF - just put it in any folder you want (Programs for example), it will install automatically once you run the cab file.
It's really the same for every applications...either you have a cab file or an exe

Yeah... i guess the supposed 200million yuan spent on R&D and two years, it was too much to make the interface compatible with current OS from microsoft
Congratulations on your M8 as well! How do you find the user experience? Are you also having the callerID problem? I remember Gabest stating that you helped her with reformatting the numbers, but no matter how i try - i can't get it to work.

I had the caller id problem, but I figured out if I store the numbers in +36xxxxxxx format, I can make and receive calls, and also SMS. However you can't sync your contacts from outlook in this format because it puts a space in it (+36 xxxxxxx) and that way it's not good. So what I did was to remove those spaces from the M8 (you only have to do it once, and then make a backup)... Now it works without any problems

@tails2: do tell how to remove programs?

@nice2know_U: thanks, but i have known this since day one. But, my argument is more than just on principle. A phone that took so long to come to market should be able to perform basic phone tasks.

I have my numbers is outlook in the following format: +12 (345) 6789123. In anyother phone the spaces or the brackets don't make any difference. I am sure on the M8 this is an easy thing to rectify so i believe it should be done. Otherwise i have to go through 300 contacts manually and change atleast two phone numbers per contact!!

Furthermore, when i get a call from somebody on my m8 the phone shows the caller ID as 123456789 (without the +) so if i press the number on the recieved calls the call doesn't go through, untill i manually enter 00 infront of that number. YET, if i get an SMS on the M8 from the same number the phone caller ID shows the number as +123456789... go figure...

I'll update my bugs list soon, as my calendar is acting up now that the phone syncs with outlook

    @anxiousone,

well just like you said, when you use active sync and go to add/remove programs the tick-boxes are greyed out. But if you simply click on the name part (i.e highlight it) and then hit the remove button it will remove that single program. Thats it. It may come up on your phones screen with a windows ce box, but just click ok. Simple as that

Try it out and let me know how you get on.

Oh also, can everyone that has changed their registry in one way or another, please go to

    settings>usage

and tell me if it opens the usage window or goes back to the main desktop. I am having some trouble. thanks

hmmm... grasshopper you have a point there... i can attest that this wasn't the case before the latest fw (at least i think) - though i have messed with both registry and one mui file. EDIT: what i mean is that setting>usage does take me back to desktop, though i don't think it was the case under the last fw.

Also the add/remove doesn't work for me cause i don't get any option for uninstall.. check my picture in an earlier post... Thanks.
