Angry Meizu lagging behind while Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3 released to manufacturing

I wonder if Meizu are planning on upgrading to the new version of WinCE in the close future.. This version brings a lot of improvements like a better power management, better hardware resources management, etc...

    http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/p...ddedce6pr.mspx

I really don't understand why Meizu are so slow on the software side of things... It's been almost a year since the M8 is out and they still didn't manage to get to a somehow stable and backward compatible firmware. And of course since there's no stable firmware they cannot launch an application shop either... Jeez, is it so hard to get rid of the major bugs? Instead of doing the right thing, they keep on reinventing the interface, bringing (inevitably) more bugs in the process... They even remade the hardware (M8se) but still no final (stable) firmware!!

Seriously, the M8 looked very tempting and promising at the time of its launch, but now it's more of a joke phone to me.

Another thing that concerns me is the fact that the software market is evolving rapidly while Meizu is stagnating. It looks like they already lost the race.
    Here are a few examples:
    - Opera Mini (the highly customized version 4) that comes with the phone is not upgradable, so basically any cheap java-capable phone now can have a better and faster browser that the M8, since Opera Mini 5 beta is available now but cannot be installed on the M8. (here's a video comparing the opera Mini 5 to other mobile browsers: YouTube - Speed test: Opera Mini 5 vs the rest)
    - By the time the M8 will get a 1.0 stable firmware (hopefuly in January), Windows mobile 7 will be around, A new and improved version of Android will be here, Moblin for MIDs will be around too, Palm's WebOs will spread on a few more devices... The M8se (or 3G, or whatever the new release is gonna be called) will just drown in this huge amount of new and better devices...

I really hope that at Meizu, they are secretly working on an Android version of the firmware... That is probably their only chance to make it before the current hardware becomes obsolete..

I agree with you. I seriously don't know what Meizu has been up to these months.. I mean, M8 is their main product. What else are they spending their time on?

    The M8 SE and M9...?

I think they ironed out some hardware problems with the SE and, will now focus on finishing the first firmware.

I hope they go for the safe option and NOT implement a total GUI overhaul, but iron out bug first.
I know this opinion is not the most fashionable one, but the current firmware without bugs would be satisfying to me.

They can implement the overhaul in version 1.5, then in the mean time we have got a stable phone os.

I can't believe that they would have their software engineers working on the new hardware versions. To each their tasks, no ?

    Stable 1.0 version, now !

I was looking at reviews of new HTC phones today (on Gizmodo and Engadget) and I was a little surprised by the fact that M8's interface begins to look outdated a little bit in comparison with what's coming out from HTC's and other manufacturer's labs (Windows and Android based). Looks like Meizu lost the "novelty" card because they were too slow on the software side... Sad... Very sad...

I agree with jorge_regula, even if Meizu was preparing the M8se or M9, the software engineers have nothing to do with that. I mean in more than a year they didn't manage to release a final firmware!! I have never seen that before... Their development cycle already too twice or even three times more than the concurrents!

Generally, a phone (or any other piece of electronic) goes to production with 1.0 and then gets a few updates to polish a few minor glitches. Meizu on the contrary released the phone to production in a beta state and in a year didn't even manage to get to 1.0... What were they thinking?

And arguments like "it's their first phone", "it's good enough as it is" or "be patient, it's a small company, they need time" that I saw on these forums are out of place. People pay for the product, they deserve at least some quality...
