    video playback on the M8

I have a Dell Axim V51 and bought the M8 so I can retire the PDA/phone combo. M8 can 'play' the same files but not perfectly smooth like the V51 or on PC. These are not high resolution videos and M8 does play them but I think Meizu skip frames to achieve the maximum claim of playability and better battery life, which I heard all chinese media player companies do.

I have had no help from the Chinese M8 forums, everyone there calim video playbacks are 'smooth'. I can see we have different view of what smooth is.

Anyone else feel the same or know if this can be fixed by software? Basically my M8 is just collecting dust now because the available ebook readers are terrible (Mobipocket works on practically anything with a screen except the M8) and video playback is not satisfactory.

Please don't suggest I recode the files. If I go that route, I could've just stick with my Blackberry Bold.

Are you trying to play avi videos? Because I have noticed they are not smooth too...checked lots of videos' specifications and sometimes it seems they are completely the same (in both video and audio compression, bitrate, resolution etc.) and one of them plays completely smooth and the other one skips frames like you mentioned. Maybe we should do a little more research on the specifications so we can isolate what kind of encoding is causing this problem, so Meizu could improve it.

Interesting. For me the playback of Xvid or Divx Avi files are a little like watching the old Japanese cartoon where they use 15 frames instead of 30. Not nearly as bad but I can spot a little jerkiness in the movement as if a few frames are dropped per-second (which I've heard it's common practice for Chinese device makers but all the Chinese 'review' sites are basically whores so no one can verify this on the M8). I can never spot that slight jerkiness of movement on my Axim V51 or PC playing back the same file unless I turn off Intel 2700 hardware assit on my Dell then it's obvious. Keep in mind I am one of those people going nuts looking at a CRT monitor running anything below 75HZ. Technically one can argue dropping a few frames per-second can still be considered 'smooth' but I don't agree.

Mobipocke is my main reader because of its polish and versatility. All my books are either PDB, TXT or HTML. I can try using Mdict instead but M8 has no stylus and the existing M8 readers have no on screen select multitasking with MDcit, terrible page breakes and word break for anything other than simplified Chinese. Try any of the public domain books from Project Gutenburg. It's a pleasure to read them in Mobipocket but awaful on M8 (two readers do not support html and the Panda reader has terrible formating for non-Chinese). This will easilly be solved with future improvements but combined with the video playback, I basically have no use for the M8 at the moment.

This is what I got for getting a beta product and listening to all the whores and fanboys in Chinese websites. It is actually no more capable of replacing my Axim 51V than any of the HTC products out there. At least it didn't cost that much (got mine during promotion special in Beijing).

Thank God! I thought I am the only one because all the fanboys in Meizu's own forum claiming everything is smooth.
