Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI do hope the global edition in the initial release WILL have 3G support, instead of what was said last year. A mid-2008 product without 3G is just NOT-DONE in our current time. I actually wouldn't buy it if it didn't had 3G.
My country (netherlands) has dropped the EDGE-networks alltogether in favour of UMTS/3G, so the M8 better have it!!! I can't handle GPRS-speeds on a 720x480 screen...ZTE Blade

^3G is useless anyway(unless you're rich and want to throw away your cash). WiFi ftw.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsYeah perhaps now. Please do take in account the fact that eventually 3G will become more widely used and popular. T-Mobile Netherlands already offers no-datalimit portable internet for as much as 10 euro's per month.
Full 3G speeds are more expensive of course, but you get the point. Prices will drop and when that happens it will be a shame not having 3G on the M8. Especially with it's full screen with full browser (no mini-internet or whatever)
One year in techno-land will make a huge difference in the transition to 3G. Google's Andriod platform that is to be released this year will probably also promote the entire "online" thought with things like Google Maps. Almost every phone company is has it's phone models with 3G support now, except the ultra-cheapo ones perhaps.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsItaly comes to mind :P
We are basically skipping WiFi altogether in HOPE (a very stressed out hope) that WiMax will be the "new thing" in our country.
Meanwile, 3g and other similar services are the only thing we have ... an advanced phone like the Meizu without such a feature is not gonna sell well here.
I myself won't buy it (and I DO want it...badly!).
That sayed...if it ALSO has WiFi...then it's all the better

Think about THIS....
- ...if the largest mobile network service provider in the world (CMCC, China Mobile) cannot get a 3G license, what good does a 3G phone do us?
- ...if MEIZU does not find a software solution comparable to the iPhone's it will be no choice for the gadget fans, and those you want too, MEIZU!
- ...if (Big IF) all the forum talk about the M8's specs becomes reality, it will be a success.
- Realize the "wonder phone" soon.
- WiFi is an absolute MUST.
- GPS, G3, etc.
- The phone must be open to buyers provider choice = unlocked!
- Prepared for 2 (TWO) Sim cards.
- Have at least 8GB memory, upgradeable
- sufficient "phone" memory.
- A touchscreen which converts light into electricity (a feature many cheap phones have already in China)
- proper antennas!
- no less than 3MP cam.
- Handwriting- and voice recognition.
- a English-Chinese both ways, Pinyin+Chinese character dictionary!!! No phone has that yet.
- Optional first class Bluetooth (stereo) earphones.
- Good accessories, like a well designed carrying case...
- ...a second battery and intelligent charger, good for Bluetooth device and phone with standard connectors (best USB type, as they are the most sturdy)
- a software to connect the phone to your laptop via Bluetooth, equal to Nokia's suite, which communicates with my LOTUS organizer and exchanges information BOTH ways - phone>organizer and organizer<phone.
Guys, The M8 is truly a great idea, so far... but will only be a competition to any of those big makers out there if it has what it takes. With capabilities as I described and those which have already been posted I'd buy one in a minute, and millions will do to.
The software of the iPhone is cool, the iPhone badly designed (build in battery, no Sim card slot) and bad quality (screen scratches easily).
Are you guys at MEIZU listening? If not, I predict only marginal success. If you listen, it will be (with 1st class marketing) a ww success.
Best

Hi, Nik... :)
It's the other way around Nik. There are just a handful of countries with functioning (affordable) 3G service.
WiFi is just an extension of ADSL or broadband, which YOU can install...
Regarding 3G in China...
Let's hope MEIZU is listening and this Mini ONE will not just be a FORUM subject. China is a great country, but one stupid guy in a small government office can kill a good project... Of course there's always the well used and good excuse that this is (still) a developing country... but then again, shooting rockets to the moon
3G should be a priority project, (and national health- and social-security). This beautiful country COULD set an example for ALL developing countries, IF IT DOES NOT REPEAT THE MISTAKES THE DEVELOPED COUNTRIES MADE...
