T-mobile poor signal strength with Meizu M8

    Peace Friends,

Let me preface by saying I live in Philadelphia Pennsylvania area and just purchased a Mezui M8 from ebay. I have a t-mobile family plan and my wife has wanted an unlocked iphone for a while now so I did her one up, in my mind, by getting her the Mezui for half the price.

As soon as I got it on Thursday I popped in my sim card to test it out for a couple days before surprising her with the phone. I preloaded all her music and pictures and experimented with all of it's amazing features. Everything worked great, some minor bugs hereand there but no more than any other cell phone and nothing major. The service worked great everywhere but at my job. Whenever I was at work my signal strength diminished. I thought nothing of it since my wife never would need to use the phone at my job.

So I gave her the phone last night and come to find out she has absolutely no service while trying to use it in our appartment, I tried my sim card and had the same problem. We don't have the best service in our apartment with her old sidekick, and it does occasionally drop calls here and there, but with the mezui there is nowhere in the apartment where it gets more than one bar! Even if you are able to make a call it will drop service within 10 seconds! She tried for an hour just to send a text with no success! I really want to find a solution, if one exists, because right now she's forced to used her sidekick much to her dismay.

Of course t-mobile is not going to help much because it's not one of their phones...Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated my friends....

    Welcome to MeizuMe!

Well, it seems that M8 has less signal strength than other cellphones, and this is one of it's biggest complaint by chinese users too. Meizu is working hard to fix the signal issue, hopefully the next firmware will address this problem.
By the way, what version of firmware do you have installed? I recommend you always use the latest one.

Thanks for the info nice! I just installed the latest version of firmware and doesn't seem to help with the signal strength. Now i have another problem, it seems after the newest firmware was installed the wifi is now non-existent on the phone. When you go into settings it's just not listed at all. So for whatever reason the firmware installation uninstalled the wifi. How do I get it back?

Do a search on "M8Cracker" and you will find the solution

I have tmobile as well. I haven't had a problem with poor signal with my phone. The only problem that I have encountered was unable to send mms messages. Other than that the phone works great. I have done all of the firmware upgrades without any real issues as well. Hopefully, the mms issue will be resolved soon. I really miss being able to send picture messages.

May or maynot be a M8 Issue

I have T-Mobile as well, and have had no issues with the signal strength.
As for your wifi, intall M8Sprite, you can unlock the wifi and the EDGE at the same time.

For the signal issue, well, some time back I had this issue of not getting GPRS signal at my work, I could get it the moment I walked out I would get the PRS signal back. Well called TMo and Bitched at them like hell... and it took 2 days signal strength was back up inside the building...... The reason they gave me was that one of their towers had a hickup.....

Well, if you are having issues with the signal for the phone, there are a few things you can do.
Go to Tigerdirect.com, and search for the Cell Phone Signal Booster.
This is a small device that can boost signal strength in a defined area, it is about $250 or so you might have to try that... read the return policy before you buy it....

Second is like I said, install the M8 Sprite, see if that makes a difference.

If you get a better signal with a TMo branded phone than the M8, everywhere you go, then it might be a M8 issue, but if this happens only in some select areas, then you are a victim of Cell Phone Blind spot.

Yeah it's definitely a noticable fall off when we switch either of our sim cards to the m8. I tried my sim card in it all this morning and it just continues to give me no service in certain areas where my blackberry would have no issues.

As far as the M8sprint download goes, how do I go about installing it. I downloaded it onto my computer than moved the files onto my phone, but none of the files will open on the phone. Did I do something wrong? Excuse my ignorance...

The only thing that comes to mind is the RAR factor.
Most of these apps are rar'ed, so when you download them , unrar (Extract) them first before moving them to the phone.

The issue at the Phone level could be that you are trying to install the app thru Windows...
REMEMBER: While USB connected, the phone behaves completely different, as compared to when the phone is independent...
So after transferring the file, unplug it from the pc, and install the app thru the phone GUI only...

I got T-Mobile here in the Netherlands, and the signal strength is very good at the places where it's supposed to be good.

I'm afraid we can't improve it.
It's up to Meizu to do that.

Have you installed 0.9.1.5? It should have better signal strength.

    mm, same problem here:

    location : belgium,
    operator : base/orange
    fw : 0915

signal strength where i live drops whole the time,
mostly not network signal my old nokia n73 has perfect signal,
spot on the same place, with same sim...

So it is for sure software or hardware related.
    E-mailed Meizu, and offered help aswel if they would provide the source for the wince kernel;
answer from them: no. M8 is for china, no other country.

so..we will wait on new firmware
